Ok I know! But all this buildup marketing got me hooked. So I started to make my first map with Photoshop.

Here it is. :

That's a way to cope with the anticipation. I remember, with Civ2 and Colonization I used to pen those down.

Anyone does this? Anyone wants to share maps, comments?

Your map looks great and if you can get it available for download quickly enough, I'd use it to play my first game of civ 5.

Maybe you should start a "club" of mapmakers who do realistic, hand-crafted, high-quality civ5 maps like this? Then put them out there for download. That would be awesome. I'd rather play on an intelligently crafted world map than a random one personally.

If I had the time, I'd join such a club, but unfortunately I've already got two huge projects on my plate. Maybe I'd contribute every now and then if I needed a break from the other projects.

I began to think about it, but since all my maps are based on real world geography it would be a waste of time :)

At least we know marshes are in vanilla. That's one thing we don't have to add.

I prefer random maps which may not be like real life where you can have 1,000 miles of desert. Completeing destroying a part of the map, but rather has everything jumbled up like a jigsaw.

You've got talent.

You should try making your maps on a 2:1 canvas. That was the map can not only be more realistic, but can also be easily and accurately mapped to a sphere.

Do you take requests?

I don't know what was the biggest map of Civ4 ? Does someone know ?

We also don't know what are the specs for Civ5's maps.

I didn't really use Civ4's builder because itfelt really tricky and you had to put in all the civs units and or towns, barbarians, etc. unlike in Civ2 where all you had to put were the tiles and the game would randomly put in the starting units and barbarian huts, etc. I hope the map making process comes easier in Civ 5.

Do I take requests ? For what ? Making maps on paper or making maps in the game?

Yes, but I do have to say one thing. I make realistic maps, no Warcraft kind of maps where everyone starts with a similar starting location.

Id assume that the maps will be at least 50% bigger otherwise its going to be very weird particularly on Earth maps. On Rhyes Earth map the sea gap between England and France or Florida and Cuba is only 1 square. In Civ5 an archer can shoot 2 squares away which would mean an Archer in England/Florida would be able to shoot arrows into Cuba/France.

Im basing my 50% larger map size guess on the fact that Cities in civ 5 can spread out 3 squares while in Civ4 they only spread 2.

Here is the map I've made for Ramesses following his criterias.

EDIT : * Second version *

That is awesome. I couldn't have asked for anything more. Thank you very much.

Well, there is one thing. Do you think I could have the .psd so I could make a few tweaks?

GEM might be nice to play on

@ size of maps, I know there were map scripts writen for civ iv you could download, and they were able to make much larger maps then what came stock in vanilla. Also I think Soren(was it he who wrote the maps?) said you could make them as large as you wanted, but it depended on what your pc could handle. I don't know how to do any of that stuff however :), and couldn't help you out there. Just thought I'd let you know.

I'm already thinking up map ideas, perhaps an American Colonisation map. But all I'm going to do is overlay a hex grid onto a world map to get my maps.
It's more just the fiddlybits with civilizations (No Spain!) that need to be worked out.

I just found out how to more or less plan those maps and see if my current ones will fit. Taking the largest map model in CivIV, Terra map sitting at 104 squares by 64, you open Photoshop and turn on the grid. The resolution must be 1480x 908 px to see what you map would look like in a CivIV game.
