Whenever I play Civ5 and my laptop is plugged in charging it eventually just shuts down, sometimes it says it overheats, sometimes no explanation. I play on a straight surface (table) in a room with a fan on, (its not hot). If I do not plug my laptop in, it does not overheat, but I only have a 2 hr play session. Im no computer expert (I mainly play ps4, yes console noob) I have a HP Pavilion m6 notebook, running windows 7 home premium 64 bit. AMD A10-4600M APU processor. 6144MB RAM. Is my laptop just crap and I need to get a new one? If so please recommend one thats like a couple hundred bucks. Thanks for the help.

Does the fans work? How hot is it when you run Civ 5? Civ 5 is a resource hog. My laptop runs hot on it, but it always runs hot when I play games on it.

Crack open your laptop and see if it's full of dust. At a certain point the cooling system won't work if there's too much dust in it.

Try running Civ on worse graphics settings.
