Civ5Replay Viewer Application

How do I view another players saved replay? I know this might seem obvious, but I am saving the replays to my computer as step one. Then I am opening up the Replay Viewer and clicking the "load replay" button. However when I do this the replay file I've saved does not show up on my list and I'm not having any luck. Please help!

It seems like the program opens the file, but flashes and disappears.

Hi, can you emal me a copy of the replay file so that I can test it within the debugger? I'm away from home at the moment, but will be able to have a look at it at the weekend. My email address is in the first post.

Thanks.

CowHickey.

I will email it today Cow, thanks for your help. I will also try some other replay files here on the forums.

Would real gameplay icons (such as those found in the strategic view) instead of "coloring hexes" be too much to handle by the program routines at this stage of development?

PS: Ooooopps, crashed upon clicking "PLAY" but still works as intended with the "STEP" option.

EDIT: Here's the requested files for testing.

That is a feature I would like to include - once I get to that point I shall ask if someone would like to design me some graphics - I have absolutely no artistic talent

Hmmm - if it crashes it should do it for both or neither. Can you send me a copy of the replay file please?

I have a replay file that always crashes version 0.3 on turn 210. Geneva captured Russia's last city on that turn, that's probably the reason.

You're right, that is the reason - the bug fix will be in the next version I release. Thanks for uploading your replay file for me to check.

Hi,
I also face crashes when I try to replay it. Probably because I am playing the German version of Civ5.
When I open the replay, I can see details in the header of the tool but I cannot see the map at all. When I press play, I do not see anything new, except "pause" is getting enabled.
When I try to pause or press "step" button, the tool will crash.
I hope the file can help you.

I haven't had a chance to run your replay in the debugger yet, but I'm pretty sure that the problem is because the replay is from the German version. Those of you who have looked at the XML file might have notices that there is a section called "Languages" which will be used to implement differing replay languages.

The only language (apart from English) which I have a more than a basic understanding of is Spanish, so if anyone would like to help me with translations, I would be grateful.

Hey, this app looks great! I downloaded the 0.4 version, but when I tried to run it my AVG jumped and said it contained malware. I figure it's just being anal, but I wanted to check here and make sure anyhow. Anyone else have that problem?

I have a big, crashy replay for you, too:
Huge ICS Culture

Map file's here:
Huge ICS Culture (map)

This was an easy one to solve - I've neglected to add the Mongol civ to the data file. I also need to add some better error handling so that the app doesn't just crash when the slightest thing goes wrong :)

Anyway, here is an updated xml file, just unzip it and drop it in over the one in your Civ5History folder.

Ah! By now, I'd forgotten the Mongols weren't original. Thanks!

I just downloaded the 0.4 version and tried it out. Nice looking app, but some bug reports:

- Tried it out at my 1280 x 720 resolution on 64-bit Windows 7 using the Classic Theme. This replay program's window is not properly sized; all the controls at the bottom of the window are underneath the Windows taskbar at the bottom of the screen. No problem, just click maximize right? Well, no, because when clicking maximize, the window maximizes to the full height of 720 without taking the taskbar into account, so that the controls disappear even more underneath the taskbar. I also can't click the bottom right window handle to resize the window since it is underneath the taskbar. I had to auto-hide the taskbar to be able to view the controls.

- The Pause button doesn't work. Clicking it does nothing to stop the replay from playing.

- And yes, I experienced the crashes deep in later turns of replay files that some others have reported.

This online virus aggregate scanner says the 0.4 executable is clean, as does Kaspersky's scanner at http://www.kaspersky.com/scanforvirus.

The map window can be resized by dragging the bottom of the map area up and down - if it's too large for a 720 height resolution by default, I will resize it for the next release.

I've never had a problem with the Pause button not working - is this all the time, or just with particular conditions?

As for crashes deep into replays, it would help me if you could post the replay file here, or email it to me so that I can load the file in the debugger to see what the problem is.

Thanks for taking the time to report these problems.

When I start the replay it works fine when I was loading the replay for Elizabeth but when I tried loading a replay for Isabelle the program crashes after clicking "Step".

I'm using 0.4 is that is any more use.
