CivAssist II

CivAssist II 30-Oct-2016

If this is not XP, but Win98 or ME you may have an issue with the Net framework. I am not sure about XP, if it is not up todate, but if SP2 it should not be an issue.

This is cool -- but it only seems to work when an enemy unit is selected, at least on the 1975 version. Is it possible to add a combat calculator to show calculations for an enemy unit attacking one of our units?

Any thoughts on this question?

Hello, thanks for this wonderful work!
I am having problems running the program. DLed latest version and NetWork, installed without a problem, runs fine -- but when my Civ3 (Vanilla) is active and CivAssist is up and I want to go back to the game (tried both hitting the "hide" button or alt-tabbing), it dissapears somewhere never to return. It is up in the task manager, but I can never alt-tab back to it (or use the go-to-civassist-button), then the game freezes up and nothing happens. I usually have to manually restart windows too.

Am I doing something wrong? Does this have something to do with window minimization or something?
This is under Windows 98SE, pIII 1000MhZ 512MB, 64MB Radeon (Mobility). Sorry if I am stupid, but I would really like to make use of your excellent work. Thank you for your time and help and patience.

Ok, I've got auto-load on, but it's not quite working right for PTW. It'll load up vanilla saves and autosaves, Conquests saves and autosaves, but only regular PTW saves. It never loads PTW autosaves. Any particular reason for this? Do I need to "point" the program to the PTW autosaves folder somewhere?

Excellent work, two small issues.

First, the option to check production etc per government only allows you to specify governments that you already have. I'd like to be able to see in advance whether I should trade for Republic vs Monarchy, for example (or which I should research). I know a lot can change over the research time, but it'd still be a nice estimate.

Also, if I have alerts pop up, civ doesn't get focus back after I close the alert; I need to click once on the map first. Minor nuisance.

Yes, you can. The governments you don't have are shown in a light-grey to indicate that you don't have the pre-requisite tech, but you can still select them to see the effects.

Tomas may be able to fix that - not sure.

Bah, light grey means disabled menu item, doncha know? :-)

Next issue, which may be me being as dumb as above. Attached save, when I look at it in CivAssist shows me as being 2 turns away, but in-game I am 1 turn away.

Also, minor note about web programming, not sure who to direct it to. If you set MAX_FILE_SIZE as a hidden form field (in bytes) then some browsers will give an error client-size if the file is too large (so you don't have to upload the whole file). Won't work for everyone (so you still need server-side stuff) but pretty simple to implement.

Since last posting, I can say that CivAssistII will not run on my machine (spex in above post), even as the only application running under Win98SE it freezes up as soon as I attempt to leave the "options" page. For your help I am thankful.

brilliant, absolutely brilliant work... but i'm not sure exactly how much i'm gonna use most of this info. i'll probably turn some of those alerts on, though.

Looks great. :D

A question: does this program work in the civ3 editor? And if so, can it calculate, for instance, the number of tiles of each type of terrain on a map? (Forgive me if this question has a glaringly obvious yes or no answer - I don't really know much about this program all, only just stumbled across it. ;) )

If so, this would really be a help in my making of the Civ3 ISDG Map - I could easily compare statistics, rather than counting out squares one by one... :crazyeye:

I dont know if it has been raised before, I spotted it by accident recently.

If you turn Cultural conversion on you can see all cultural conversions even in AI city's, both on/near your border and on/around foreign borders.

I spotted this in my most recent turn in TGOTM succesion game. I saw the conversion percentages for the city's on the border of Korea and Ottoman. You can catch the save there if you need....

Just to make it a bit easier, here is my most recent save....

[Edit:] I just noted that I am no longer using the most recent version, stil in 1. something.. Will have to download the most recent tonight when at home....;)

Is there a turn log feature in CivAssist II?
I usually keep notepad up to keep a turn log, but I think some assistance or prompting by CivAssist might be a useful feature. Or, maybe not.

I offerred that idea (turn log) as well, a while ago... Never did read an answer to it...
Offcourse for the turnlog to be readable you would need to rename every Warrior to something like Warrior1, Warrior2 etc.
But thats a small thing to do if CA can then keep a full turnlog of every move and every build change and such.... Makes QSC for xOTM much easier to....

Tho for any game when get to up to 100 units or so, seeing every move is not that good for making a log. So you should be able to switch such a feature on and of for anything beeing logged.
Eg.
Log All builds
Log Culture bulds <Libs, temples and such including wonders offcourse>
Log wonder builds
Log Unit moves
Log start build, change build, rushing?, finish?

Hmz that seems like quite a bit of work... :(

I get the feeling that I'm an idiot, and these are gonna be simple answers, but I'm gonna ask anyhow.

In the changes for one of the versions, a combat calc is mentioned, but I can't find one.
Also, haven't I seen people make dotmaps with this tool, I see references to planned cities?

I'm sure the answers are somewhere hidden within these 300+ posts, but I'm kinda lazy, you know? Heck, that's why I like this thing so much already!

Also, I dl'ed the newest version, and now it doesn't seem to pop up the same way as before. Previously, at the start of each turn, it would pop up for a split second, minimize, then pop up for real a second time. Now it does the same thing, except is doesn't come back the second time. :hmm:

I posted something about this before and I have run into it again. CivAssist II and crpMapStat disagree on the Dom Limit by one. This time I took a chance and took it down to 1 tile. I didn't win so that means crpMapStat is correct I think you need to round up.

Small request (feature/bug?) - could you make the columns in the Trade Options window stay static? Right now, if I move columns in the top table (things to SELL) the columns in the bottom reset in some fashion (not just back to defaults, though, I can't figure out what exactly is happening). The reverse happens with things to BUY.
