Civdos PBEM?

I just started wondering if it's possible to play Civ as a multiplayer game via E-mail. I mean, you play one turn and then save and send the game to next player. He changes the human player civilization by using some editor and then plays his turn and saves etc. Is it possible or do the game switch the AI turns somehow strange way? Has anyone ever tried? I know the diplomacy could be a problem, but maybe we could manage to find a good way to do it. Is anyone interested? To me it would be much more fun than GOTM or SG.

It indeed is possible.. though since there are hundreds of turns in a game of civ it would only be for the patient. Still, playing a game over a loooong time is what PPEMs/PPMs are all about. I read about of a boardgame (Diplomacy) played over mail with 7 players. The game took over 10 years and only one player dropped out.

I'm up for it. Though I probably won't be *too* quick with handing in my savegame. Heck, if we do this I don't think we should even have a deadline.

In-game diplomacy wouldn't work. We should use email to discuss alliances etc. be handled via email or PM. We could have a thread used for general discussion and posting saves (or we could just email them).

I'm 55% sure it would work. I mean, it would be heck easy to cheat and check out each others civs but that's not fun. It would be pointless to those who want a pure-multiplayer-game of civ.

So.. /in. I wouldn't mind if it was just me and you.. though more players would be great

Yes it would be easy to cheat but I believe that we are gentlemen here in Civ1 forum, aren't we? Using a deadline would be just stupid since the game takes so long anyway. I don't care how long it takes cause it isn't too hard to play 1 turn every now and then even if it sometimes get bored...
If there's only two players we can do it with E-mails. But I hope some more players joins. We can discuss the rules (map,AIs?,level etc) here and then set up game.
