Hi,

I just bought Civ III-GOTYE for Mac and not having played the game since my PC days, was absolutely elated to receive my X'mas goodie.

Sadly, I was unable to install the game onto my Powerbook G4 as the CD-ROM would encounter numerous problems ranging from a very slow mounting to desktop as well as abrupt installation termination midway due to some inaccessible files (mostly media related content like mp3's or movies), error msg: "I/O error- Bad Media?".

Even tried installaing the scaled down version (minus the movies) and that worked for very briefly (in so far as the settler appearing on a virgin map) and then unceremoniously froze while trying to access something from CD again.

Just to be sure it wasn't my Drive, I plugged in numerous CD's into my PB and that worked just fine. Moreover, when I tried running this problematic CD on my friend's machines (ranging from PC's to Mac's), all we got were either blank screens or perpetual drive accesses.

I am now waiting for InsideMacGames to respond to my query- awfully disappointed that after a long eager wait, all I got was this crummy CD...

IMG is not going to be able to assist you on this, other than take the game back. It could be a bad cd, I suppose. You would be served better if you contacted MacSoft Games.

This may be an obvious suggestion, but I've had the problem myself on a few occasions with other games and it wasn't obvious to me at first...

Have you looked at the botton of the CD and cleaned off any fingerprint smudges or other dirt. Baldur's Gate used to do the same things to me before I discovered a large thumbprint on the bottom. Cleaning it with a *very* soft cloth fixed all my problems.

Otherwise dojoboy is right, call Macsoft.
