Lots of programs have web interface, like emule or azureus, which is good when you're at work and you can simply log in to you're home computer and check out how things are working out in there. Works fast on browser, much faster than any vnc and works on almost any computer and OS there is as long as it has a web browser.

I've ben playing civ 3 on my work laptop for a long time but since i got civ IV i've been waiting to get home to play it since my laptop isn't fast enough to play civ IV smoothly.
I tried if i could play it via VNC but it doesn't work fast enough either.

Then i got this crazy idea if it could be possible to make a web interface to civ IV. Don't know if it's possible, would be pretty hard that's all i know since i don't know about programming. If it's possible and someone skilled enough would make it it would be awesome. You could have a server to run civ IV and play it anywhere you like as long as there's a computer with a web browser. No matter how old you're computer is or what operating system it has it would work everywhere. Shared games would work out much faster since there wouldn't be any need to share the save game, just give access to you're server running the game.

It's not probably possible to make it work in civ IV without modifying the game-engine but i just wanted to share the idea. Civ IV would be a perfect game to make a web interface since it's turn based and graphics doesn't matter. Oh well, just daydreaming at work, guess i'll have to continue on playing civ 3, don't tell my boss!

Umm... how could this be actually done? Civ uses the 3-d engine, it can't be played through a web-page. Unless the interface worked by taking screenshots...

Why not simply utilize Remote Desktop to log into the server from wherever? The server runs Civ IV normally and external machines Remote-in and use the machine as if they were sitting there.

This is much easier than trying to rewrite the entire app to be web based.
