CivPedia Thread

A thread reminded me that I forgot to answer you.

To put it bluntly, I don't like Raitlor's story. I doesn't look like it because she's in Orbis, but she comes from LENA (LeadersEnhanced in my signature), in the thread of which you can find a small text describing her story, which is completely different.

Okay, it's been awhile, but I've started working on more entries to hopefully get into the 0.30 release.

Adeptus
Spoiler :
TXT_KEY_UNIT_ADEPTUS_STRATEGY

While the Adeptus unit is not as versatile as the Adept, it is nevertheless quite powerful it its own right as a support unit. The ability to repair siege engines can help keep an offensive going as well as quickly repair ships and get them back to see. The ability to entrench other units also makes it a important to keep while on the attack when your stack is out in the open.

Air Elemental
Spoiler :
TXT_KEY_UNIT_AIR_ELEMENTAL_STRATEGY

Although weak for a Rank 3 summoned unit, an Air Elemental can pass over any terrain, including water tiles and can see 2 tiles further than other units. To its advantage, however, is that upon winning a combat, Air Elementals will summon [LINK=UNIT_LIGHTNING_ELEMENTAL] Lightning Elementals [/LINK]. Thus they make good units to send into enemy territory as a diversion as then can spawn more units to add to the distraction.

TXT_KEY_UNIT_AIR_ELEMENTAL_PEDIA

:):):):):)We know that air, while invisible, is indispensible when it comes to sustaining life. We know from it come the rains so needed for crops. It is to us what water is to fish; so vital yet unseen. That invisibility is also what makes the Air Elemental so very dangerous. Until it is upon you, with flashes of lightning, it might as well be the wind. This wind, however, is a wind that brings death.[NEWLINE][PARAGRAPH:1]Air Admiral Giuseppe Valle speaking at the annual Mechanos Aeronautica Militare ball.[NEWLINE][NEWLINE]HISTORY: Air Elementals are summoned by Archmages who invoke one of the most primal of elements, historically associated with the East. This elemental attacks with cutting winds and flashes of lightning. In victory it calls to itself a host of lesser Lightning Elementals.

Angel
Spoiler :
TXT_KEY_UNIT_ANGEL_STRATEGY

Angels are awarded to the Mercurians when good people die. This could be from a good* unit being killed, in which case they are made into an Angel and maintain their experience to spend on new skills, or when a good city is razed. Angels are the only units that can be upgraded into the Mercurians' most powerful units, so a healthy supply is crucial to their conquest of Erebus.[NEWLINE][NEWLINE]*Good units are those who follow the Empyrean, the Order or the Runes of Kilmorph religions. It also includes any living unit from the Mercurian civilization except for animal units.

TXT_KEY_UNIT_ANGEL_PEDIA

By the Will of the One did I arise as inanimate matter,[PARAGRAPH:1]I died as inanimate matter and arose again as a plant.[PARAGRAPH:1]I died as a plant and arose again an animal.[PARAGRAPH:1]I died as an animal and arose again a man.[PARAGRAPH:1]Why then should I fear to become less by dying?[PARAGRAPH:1]I shall die once again as a man to arise an angel.[PARAGRAPH:1]There shall I be perfect in form and majesty![PARAGRAPH:1]Again when I suffer dissolution as an angel,[PARAGRAPH:1]I shall pass beyond the conception of man![PARAGRAPH:1]Let me then become non-existent, for non-existence[PARAGRAPH:1]Sings to me in organ tones, 'To the One shall I return.'[NEWLINE][PARAGRAPH:1]Excerpt from "Words to Our Gods" by Elohim scholar Kadisha Tadi regarding the Empyrean world-view.

Arcane Barque
Spoiler :
TXT_KEY_UNIT_ARCANE_BARQUE_STRATEGY

The Arcane Bargue is an excellent support ship since its fireball has the potential to damage multiple targets which allow more of the offensive ships to attack directly. Additionally they act as seaborne siege units impervious to dangers like enemy assassins. It is a good idea to protect them with at least one offensive ship as they can easily fall prey to barbarian pirates or sea monsters.

TXT_KEY_UNIT_ARCANE_BARQUE_PEDIA

[TAB]Students, you must not see this as a failure. Magic is a precise act that requires a great deal of concentration and clarity of thought. This is difficult when arrows are falling around you and all that stands between you and the decapitation is the breaking line of footmen before you. However, the Element of Fire is still yours to command and you shall serve the kingdom and serve it well…as long as you are not prone to seasickness!” [NEWLINE][PARAGRAPH:1]Grigori Master of Fire, Drogo Bozidar, to his rejected adept students.

Archmage
Spoiler :
TXT_KEY_UNIT_ARCHMAGE_STRATEGY

The archmage is the final level of the spell-casting line and as a National Unit, only 4 are available to each civilization. Additionally, an archmage can only be created from a mage that has reached level six. A key strategy in regards to the limits on archmages is the level 3 Death magic promotion enables the [LINK=UNIT_LICH] promotion. This is very powerful since the Lich, while a tier 3 spellcaster doesn’t count against a civilization’s archmage total! Another key point regarding the archmage is that the most common form of tier 3 spells is the summoning of various elementals or demons so it is usually a good idea to prepare for this by taking promotions that will strengthen these summoned units such as Combat I and Spell Extension I and II.

TXT_KEY_UNIT_ARCHMAGE_PEDIA

[TAB]The sages say that ‘Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely’. This always springs to my mind when ever I have to deal with the vaguely disturbing figure that is the Archmage. You must respect the dedication and prowess that carried them to the pinnacle of magic but you cannot help but wonder if that power distorts how they view the rest of us. What do they see when they look out at our day to day world when they have cast their gaze deeper into the firmament of the Universe than any of us could even fathom? Does duty to their kingdom hold any meaning to them? Is the struggle of life we all live every day just an abstraction to them? When then go forth with our armies, is it out of boredom or vanity to show the rest of us the sheer power they command? Truly, where do their loyalties lie? [NEWLINE][PARAGRAPH:1]Amurite Councilor Enkina Zepol before the Republic Senate

As always, my HTML knowledge is limited so please check it. For example, every time I preview this page, my HTML for tab generates 5 smiley faces in some of my entries, even after I go in and fix it; don't know why this happens.

Also, I asked some questions about the Airship and the Angel of Death in the 0.30 thread (I think) so if anyone has some answers, it will help me do their entries.

Not to my knowledge; I just built 3 of them in my current game playing as the Balseraphs.
It is. Liches also count to national limit of archmages - just get some extra bonuses (like immortality ;) ).
Also, they are scion unique archmages (standard upgrade from necromancer). But all other civs still can convert their archmages using death III spell.
Most of this is listed in the pedia, you may want to check it before writing new entries (i mean the requirements part).
Thanks for the entries though :) The lich is in the strategy text, so easy to fix, even on my own (provided someone will correct my english later ;) )

I did; I'm finding inconsistencies all the time. For example in the current version I have it says for Archmages in the requirements that it is a National level unit and 4 are available, but in th strategy section it only said three. I hadn't noticed in the game that it HAS changed to where Lich's count against your archmage's (which use to not be that) so I'll change it.

As I mentioned, the Angel of Death seems to have a issue between having Vile Touch or some other promotion (I can't check; I'm in class)

You have some spelling/grammatical errors in those entries, I'd check them over again before putting them in the pedia. Or if you want I could edit them and repost them.

I had a teacher in high school who was very strict about proper grammar and spelling, so as a result I notice all the little things.

Well it's always good to have others check them, especially since many of the original entries that people are working from where written by people whose first language isn't English.

BTW, what is the best way to find out what is the current or projected way something is going to be? I've found certain things in the pedia that are wrong or missing but I've heard rumblings of changes that might affect that entry.

I made some modifications to the above text, fixed the few spelling errors I found, and made some alterations to the grammar, I think it reads better now. Just two points that could use some clarification;

Is mercurians the singular, plural, or both? I don't remember what it looks like ingame and I'm not at my desktop to check.

I think the strategy portion of the archmage entry about how liches don't count towards the archmage limit is wrong.

I hope this helps.

Yes, it is. That is what happens when I don't have access to Orbis for a month or two and changes get made that aren't in the current Civlopedia.

Reposting from other thread, so it doesn't get lost ;)

Standing Stones: The Druids form a loose brotherhood of near-hermits who meet once a year to compete, share knowledge and bond at places of great importance to Nature such as nature nodes, sacred trees and groves. The most famous of those gathering places, Standing Stones, is said to be powerful nature node but it's secrets are still to be discovered by mages and druids of Age of Rebirth.

Gate to the Underdark: Not all dwarves left Underhome to live beneath the stars. Most of them still live in their safe under-hill communities. Not willing to meet humans, who they still consider to be tricksters, they only trade with few selected individiuals and other dwarves. Because of this, gems they mine are in high demand at markets of Kwythellar.

Tower of Eyes: Tower of Eyes, the Palus, used to be a prison for one of the most powerful mages of Patria. Perpentach, master of mind magic, was locked in this dungeon deep in wastelands by Kylorin and while he finally managed to escape, he left many of his secrets behind.

Good catch Kalina. Hmmm... I think the release of Orbis 1.0 means it's a good idea for me to rummage through the Civilopedia again. Hopefully I will be able to catalog all the broken, missing and nonsense entries during the weekend.
