Classic 33: Saves Now Available!

Hi. This is my second GOTM and I'm getting a crash that's similar to what happened when you met the spanish in gotm32. This is with another add-on civ from the ME. I'm using v1.29. Just letting you know. Thanks
Please e-mail me (gotm@civfanatics.net) with the exact error message. First; a couple of things to try:

1.) Did you install all add-on graphics packs from previous games?
2.) Have you updated your pediaicons.txt file with the one that I put in the .zip file with the save?

I also received a load error when using the save file. I download and put the save with the txt file in my save directory. I am using PTW 1.27f from Civ GOLD edition. I'm kinda lost on what I need to do to fix this. Any Help???

Yep that would be it ... sheesh .. talk about brain dead. I gotta get more sleep. Dang video games!!!

You said the problems with pediaicons.txt were only in vanilla, and yet I had trouble with it last month. The file I got then should still be ok though, right?

I'm sorry to report that the pediaicons.txt file I downloaded was still inadequate. After I built the ToE, the wondersplash connection was missing in the pediaIcons.txt file. Several of the pictures had been wrong during the game but I had ignored that up until then. I switch back to my old file which I had already partially fixed last month. I went ahead and fixed the rest of it and played the game to completion with this file.

For some reason at some point someone erased several of the original civs from the file. I found my orignial pediaIcons.txt file and swapped in all of the connections for the 3 or 4 civs that were missing. I've attached my file if anyone else is interested.

Presuming you're referring to Play The World? If so, then you need your ORIGINAL PTW pediaicons.txt file. If this is the one that you got last month (IIRC, it was), then it will be fine.

Did you have these problems with the pediaicons.txt file included in the downlaod Civ3 save file for this month?

Yeah, I'm talking about the one in that thread below, in PTW. Alright then, haven't had any troubles yet, so hopefully things'll run fine. There _are_ about 40,000 versions of the file roaming around, so I was just double-checking.

Yeah, sorry I wasn't more clear. I'm using civ3 1.29f. I dl'd and used the file included with the Open Class game. I had already started playing with my old file which was missing leaderhead pictures in the f4 diplomacy screen for one of the original races which is pink on this map. I then switched in the new Downloaded .txt file after which I was missing the pictures in the f4 diplomacy screen for the newer PTW races. At some point in the game... I forget when... I got a very strange message flash that looked like it was showing me code rather than an actual message. Then I built the ToE and it told me it was missing the correlating pediaIcons.txt instructions and crashed me out of the game. Since I had already found and fixed the Aztecs and Koreans last month, I felt like I knew how to fix the lack of a race better than the lack of a wonder splash so I switched back to my file and made sure that it had all the races. That is the file I attached above which worked quite well for me.

The pediaicons.txt file included in the zip seems to point to files that I don't have. For the leaderheads, it has the leader's name in the file, while the files in my old pediaicons.txt and in my art folder have names like gotm_shilla. Using my current pediaicons file and adding stuff when necessary has worked fine for me so far. If you haven't been able to figure it out, I play Civ3 1.29f.

Yeah, I'm having issues with the pediaicons as well. I'm going to download and try the one from dcstevez (in the link above).

Well, that did not work.
My problem is that I met someone, but I can not see them at all (not even with a generic picture in my Foreign Advisor screen. This is not good. Not only can I not talk to them, the game is probably going to crash at some point because of it.

As mentioned above, in the pediicons file there is a reference to a 'shilla' to be used as the pcx. I went through my entire pediicons file and replaced the 'shilla' with (hopefully) the proper text that I copied from the pediaicons in my Conquest folder.

al thor - I've had this happen to me before. Have you tried shift/right-clicking one of the empty spots where a civ icon would be as if you were cycling through civs when there are too many to fit the screen? That worked for me then and I never had any other problem after that.

Have you downloaded the packs for the additional Civs? This seems like the problem, since you say it points to files that you 'dont have'. Although I'm gonna let the staff handle the tech support, if you didn't download those packs then you're definitely going to have some problems.

Here is some more background:
Playing CivIII, v1,29
Played GOTM32 to completion.
In order to play GOTM32, I downloaded the 'setup' mod packs for GOTM_21, 22, 23, 24, & 25.

Sabre- Thanks for the tip. It actually worked. I'm not sure why that civ did not show up in one of the available blank spots!? Of course, now he has someone else's picture, but at least the correct name.

Question: Can I load the GOTM33 save from CivIII into PTW?

Answered my own question - it works. I'm going to continue the game using PTW v1.27f. The proper leader-head shows.
Thanks for the help!

Playing the Civ version in PTW is certainly not recommended! We won't be able to offer any tech support suggestions if it doesn't work!

If you have PTW anyway, then playing the game in PTW (using the original PTW save) is the best option.

[civ3mac] 1.29

I had the pediaicons problem as well. Played GOTM32 fine except for having to correct the Koreans problem in my pediaicons. Downloaded the GOTM33 files this month and used the new pediaicons. I'm having a wonder splash (ERROR READING FILE: Missing entry in "text\Pediaicins.txt: WON_SPLASH_56) error and the missing leaderheads problem as well. I threw away the GOTM32 pediaicons already, stupid, stupid, stupid. But, to end on a positive note, I downloaded dcstevez's file and it corrected both problems.

Okay, I have been playing the CIV version using PTW. I can at least communicate with ALL of the civs, which is a bonus. (Using vanilla CIV v1.29, After meeting all civs, I ended up having 2 civs that I could not communicate with). I also had problems with various unit animations in the pediaicons file.
Using PTW, I still get issues with the missing entries in the pediicons file, but at least my communications all work. At this point, I'm trying to remember to save at the end of every turn, because I never know when it will crash because of a missing entry.
At this point, I am 3 techs into the Industrial Age and going strong, but have had more than a few crashes. With each passing hour, I become more determined to finish this game.
