Is there any way to implement in Civ4 bombardment of land units by ships, like in Civ3? Or conversely, bombardment of ships by coastal artillery?

Beat me by a couple of minutes. lol

At first I thought this was going to be a question about the coastal fortress that Civ3 had that would damage enemy ships that went by. I miss that.

It did? I never built one (just like I never built walls). Was it in the second expansion? I got ticked at the game after that, but I don't remember why specifically. Just lost all sense of fun, so I played like once.

If you don't want to use a custom dll and whatnot, you can give not air units air combat values in the unitinfo xml and the units will get a simple Ranged Bombarment ability. Not as through a system as Dales, but it works well enough if you can't combine your own dlls and are already using one.

Only problem with that method is air promotions affect the values, not artillery promotions. :)

Ofcourse. I just hate combining dlls, especially big ones, with my sdk changes, also often big. If only we could get them to include your changes in an official patch.
