Those of you who are reading my AAR will have noticed I am using screenshots from Codename: Panzers for pictures of the battle. I have heard very few other people commenting about this game, so I'm opening this thread in the hopes people will share their opinions.

In my opinion, it is a very under-rated game (I believe that when it came out - despite good reviews - it was up against some very stiff competition) and a fantastic RTS. And I'm terrible at RTS

I'm playing the game properly now, after abandoning it for Civ4. Here's a current screen capture as we over-run the French.

The great thing about this game is that it lets you choose your own strategy. In the previous mission I had to destroy three artillery positions. First time round I simply bombed the hell out of them and destroyed him. This time I subdued them, then captured a couple artillery...then turned them against the enemy!

When it came out (summer 2004), I'd been looking forward to it for very long, but was heavily dissapointed when I played the demo. It's just too 'arcade' for my tastes. Soldiers: Heroes of WWII came out during the same month, and I much preferred that game's realism.

Of course, when you don't care about realism at all, this is a great game.

Soldiers is a name I keep hearing, I will look into it.

Yes it's quite unrealistic, but the attention to detail and the fun factor more than makes up for it. Just seeing an artillery man cover his ears while the gun fires, or advancing road by road on a city map makes for good times.

Is there any economy to it? I hope it's not AOE style econonmy, I hope it's just, you get these units. Take objective.

It is indeed. You gain prestige points depending how well a mission goes, and when the next mission comes you decide what you want in your army. No economy whatsoever.

This game sucks, sucks because it dosnt have new revolutionary Ideas like ( My favourite WWII game) SHOWWII, nor the realism like that game, i played it and first I enjoyed it but after a week i got Soldiers and completly forgot this game.

Excellent. I'll try the demo. Next weekend when I am at my good computer.

Prince: Good start. If you do buy the game, look out for the pack that has both Phase One and Phase Two. Very much worth it.

Deo: I will be looking into Soldiers, but I'd hardly say Panzers sucks. A game doesn't need to have "revolutionary ideas" to be a good game. It just needs to be enjoyable to the player. Panzers does this with a mix of fun and beauty that makes it worthwhile.

its actually one of my favorite games, since i cant get Hearts of Iron i'm trying my best to get panzers phase 2

Hans von Gröbel is the best by far, poland and france are kickass campaigns

@Kan, well, I for my self cant enjoy the game because it is simply too similar too the other WWII RTS Games, nothing new.
