There are 3 proposed locations for the settlement site.

Blue would give us direct access to the sea, although it's a crappy place to live.

Red gives us some nice hills and decent living room, although not much better.

Yellow will net us whatever the funny looking resource is, give us hills and irrigated plains. Best choice but still bad.

I'm against even settling up this far, but if you have any thoughts or any other options, please do speak.

Yeah... these all look... crappy. I would have to go with blue because if we really want a foothold, we should have a harbour, right?

I'll repeat the opinion I've had of colonization from the beginning: If we do this, we're asking for trouble.

Go for the port, since the roads down to Coal City may allow us to build modern units there with a harbor in the port. That city will be doomed until airport is built without a port with harbor (also applies to luxury imports, unit builds and so on).

Sorry, but the funny looking resource is actually Salpetre!

If we really must settle here go for the port, but it will still rely on us being at peace with China to trade with our coal city anyway (unless we're going to try and build a string of cities through their territory!). As long as we are at peace we will be able to trade through China's ports - we can build Rifles in Coal city now. But if we are at War we won't be able to trade with our coal city as it will rely on China's roads anyway.

I might be tempted more if it was a resource we needed, but it isn't and China has more Saltpetre elsewhere anyway, so we're not denying them other than for trade.

Sorry, too early for me here, I'm rambling - guess I'm a d. person too.

Honestly, is there really any reason to settle here? None of the proposed city sites are even close to tolerable; they would be scoffed at if they were proposed for Kyouri. There's no reason to wedge a city between Chinese and American borders, we're simply asking for trouble. I thought we wanted to improve our standing with other nations, not annoy them by taking up their land. I realize we will be denying certain resources to the coal city, but as long as we befriend the Russians we shouldn't have any security concerns to worry about. Leave Atarashika to the Atarashikans. Kyouri is our home, and in Kyouri we should stay!

I am against settling a city just for the sake of it. We don't want to provoke china. If we will gain something from placing a city there do it. But not just for the sake of it, send the people home if need be. Defending our citys on Atarashika is a joke. Peace is our only option.

I really don't even know why a settler was sent here in the first place, but a request was asked to review the colonization options, and I must say, they really do suck. The costs far outweight the benefits of settling here, especially on tundra.

Actually, guys, I would settle 1 Tile SE of Blue. (Also knowen as 1 Tile SW of Red. Call it Purple.) It still has ocean accessability, and keps the Deer that's on Blue for Farming.

We already have 1 Colony cut off from us barring the good graces of other nations. Let us not repeat this.

Purple would be right next to Cologne, and unless we spend a lot of money it will succumb to culture.

SD3 makes a good point, let's not waste time, energy, a settler, and foreign relations by building a base this far north.

I think he meant cut-off from water access. However, we can as well build it, since this will be our last city build.

Ooooh, that was saltpeter, I thought it was...um nevermind.

While I agree that all of these places are crappy, we already have a settler out there, so we might as well colonize it. I say purple.

I agree with purple. Once we rush some local culture the flip chance will be quite low as we are far from China and America's capitols and we have greater total culture than either. There is probably about the same chance that Colonge will flip to us as we would flip to them. 1 military is probably all the required garrison to prevent a flip.

An arrogant mistake if this goes through. How did this Settler get here in the first place? Can you direct me to the poll that sent him here?

We sent him there for another city location DZ, I think...

Again, I don't like any of the options. Disband him or send him home. There is no need for us to settle a corruption infested city which will only entice the AI to go to war with us.

Ask yourself this question: [/b]What do we gain of this city?[/b]

I agree with Ginger. Settling a city here will do nothing good for us, it will only hurt us. We will have succeeded only in building a corrupted-ridden, indefensible annoyance to the nations of Atarashika.

To the ones that knows so much better than rest of us. This thread died out, no conclusion, no poll, no instructions. The peacenik party's main strategy is to wear someone down by arguing, hoping the case will be dismissed, and if they poll, they often do vote in a bloc. Ladies and Gentlemen, this is the thread that should have been discussed finished, then polled, at least decided on.

Again, I am amazed we have three unused settlers in our nation. If you go back to old saves, these have been around for more than half a millenium.

I too find that pretty amazing, especially when you consider that one of them incited a war we paid huge money to avoid.

So, what the problem, Provo? The military establishment should be jumping for joy at this latest neglect of the peoples' will! :D
