Hi. I just spent a while searching for an old thread that I remember seeing which compared the effects of drill and combat promotions on combat odds and expected damage during combats between units of varying strength. Does anyone know where that thread is? Thanks.

No it isn't actually, but thanks for the help anyways. That's a pretty substantial article.

Just as long as the end result doesn't get boosted, I'm all for smoothing out the drill line. High strength archer units with 5-8 first strikes are godlike as it is. If it weren't for magic, highly promoted crossbows would never die short of first strike immune units.

eg flanking 3 units?

Drill is now MAJORLY being buffed with the delisously delightful new system which is in the .40 changelist.

hrmm noticed something today... usually I don't bother with drill but I started Barnaxus with drill this game and I think maybe at drill 3 or drill 4 he was able to attack multiple times per round. Is this normal? This is before Blitz..

Do you have Orthus' Axe equipped? It gives blitz.

Yeah I often forget to use the axe to its full potential as well.

How about making the FFH2 Drill promotions easy to remember, with a slightly geometric progression (that's what makes the Drill promotions so much more interesting than the combat ones...just as long as it isn't overdone), and add on a Drill V and have Drill V open up Leadership, Morale, Tactics, Commando, Blitz, etc., so the drill promotions aren't just a dead end.

Drill I: +1 first strike
Drill II: +2 first strikes
Drill III: +3 first strike chances, +30% resistance to collateral damage
Drill IV: +40% vs. mounted, +40% resistance to collateral damage
Drill V: Heals units in same and adjacent tiles extra +5% per turn (will stack with other healing promotions on same unit), +50% experience earned (would only effect unit if it would have gotten 2 or more experience from a battle), unaffected by fear.

Drill is already getting boosted in .4 with defensive strikes.

And Units with Drill promotions usually already get more XP than other units since they more often have lower odds, and the harder the battle, the higher the XP reward. But a Drill V would be nice, access to other promotions via it too.
