Combining Civ 2 and 3

Can anyone help me with my mission here? I'd like to add the Civ 2 music, and if possible, the videos too, into Civ 3. I thought the music would simply be a matter of copying the music from the civ 2 folder into the civ 3 folder, but there don't seem to be any music files on the civ 2 cd. which is wierd, cause there is music in the game. although actually, i can't get it to run on my new computer with windows xp. i'd appreciate any help

I don't got any music files on my civ2 disc either, so there's nothing wrong with yours. I don't think there is any way to get the civ2 music other than playing the game.

The music files on the Civ2 disc are standard CD audio files. I don't remember exactly, but I seem to recall that you had the ability to take the Civ2 disc out and listen to the music in a CD player. I may be thinking of a different game, tho.

The videos, well, I don't think they can be added into the game. Someone would have, I think, figured that out by now.

No, you're right. You could listen to Civ2's soundtrack on a CD player. And since earlier versions of the game didn't require the CD, you could play the game with other soundtracks(although the track selection option in game would not work without a proper Civ2 cd).

Yes, I recall that the Civ2 music was standard CD audio. It would be a simple process to rip them to mp3 format, then rename the files according to the Civ3 music files. I'd do this myself except a few years ago my Civ2 CD fell on the floor, got stepped on and went flying like a bannana peel. Needless to say it's scratched to hell.

I do have a question though, is it possible to modify the code in some file so that you can have more tunes in the Civ3 playlist?

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll give it a shot, and see how it goes. I'm worried, and I'll be honest here, that since I have a burned copy of the game, the files may not have been copied in the same format as the original CD. It was just a disc a friend handed me like 6 years ago, and said "try this game, it's great". I've never seen the box cover or CD cover or anything. And my god, he was not kidding. What a great game.

I love Civ 3 too, cause its a lot more involved, but i miss the old music and videos. I can't believe you play through a whole game and all it does is pop up and say "congratulations, would you like to continue without scores?". At least Civ 2 gave you a motivational video. and wonders too, i loved watching those videos. You just spent 2000 years building the damn thing. Can't even get a video for it now. But over all, still great.

But I'll give it a shot, ripping that music, and let you know how it turns out. maybe i'll throw some beck in there too...

The wonder videos are probably the biggest thing I miss from Civ 2. I built the Eiffel Tower once for literally no reason other than to see the video.

Agreed! Civ3 felt like a step back. It's like... "Gee, you just built another wonder, here's a crapy 1 frame jpg. Hoorah."

Also, the thing I really liked about CivCTP was the movies.
