I am writing this to see if anyone would be willing to use ONE particular map when speaking of strategy. The reason I state this may not be obvious at first, but it makes ALOT of sense.

When discussing tactics I believe I it makes more sense to speak of a certain map. Most people would then understand if I made the statement;

"A good defense would be to place a city north of the panama canal, and a fortress on it in order to create a zone of control, thus effectively controlling not only two oceans, but the access point between two continents".

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Sounds great to me. I think the game of the month thing on this site does this to an extent, but it is a competition, so talking about it too much might get in the way of that. Maybe a new thread could be started with a map attached. Then everyone would download it and play on it. I can see the same benefits you do on discussing tactics. Go for it.:goodjob:

I completly agree.

I'd say the best "map" to use is reality. Most people tend to have a basic knowledge of modern world geography. (Reason I say modern is that I met a real nutbar yesterday thought the world was flat. Then again he was having a full blown conversation with himself. :lol: )

If I made a refrence to a Panama type area, we would all seem to know that it would be a chokepoint between two continents. England is a big island next to a big continent. Indonesea is a lot of little island. Canada is a frozen wastelend. :D etc.

I think it is an excellant idea however, I think it sould be the real world map not one that is downloaded. I do the forum post at work and play at home. So I would not always have access to the downloaded map.

Anyways thats my 2 cents, well, maybe 1.5. :)

Good points, and the included map could work, but I think that maps are probably small enough to send in e-mail to yourself or copy onto a disk. I could be wrong on that, but I think they are relatively small.

I am disapointed with the real world map for two reasons:

1. Certain parts look crappy. England and Japan come to mind.
2. You can't start where you should based upon your civ. If anyone knows a way around this let me know.:(
