I'm playing with the Mayans on a Huge world and have about 40 cities. I'm currently in democracy but this war weariness and unit support is out of control. What do you guys think about communism? I've heard it can really reduce corruption in a large empire and ease war weariness--plus, Secret Police Headquarters!

If you cannot end the war quickly, you better switch to communism.War Weariness alone is enough reason-you will end up in anarchy if you stay in democracy and don't make peace.I don't know how many units you have, but communism will give you 240+ free support - of course you lost the trade bonus, but in your situation most of it is cancelled because of WW, whichs means upping the lux slider or meking entertainers.
Is your empire rather dense or spread out? Your city number is still in the "green" area in terms of OCN (at least if you have an FP), but you will have an definete advantage if your empire grows further or is widely spread.

I suggest to switch to communism.

I really think that when playing on huge maps, communism is the only way to go. You don't have an extreme number of cities yet, so the production and corruption changes might not benefit you yet. But the reduced support costs and war weariness certainly will. The more you plan on growing your empire, the better it will be for you to be in communism.

I agree with rychan - the large distances and high city numbers on HUGE maps leave you virtually no other choice if you build and conquer a lot of cities.

I must disagree in one point:

You lose:
Money Rushing :(

You get:
TONS of highly productive cities, increasing your productivity enormously.

You will be able to outproduce your enemy and overrun him with the sheer power of your mass production.

I use commie because,heh,it works

Communism is the way to go if you want to wage war post-Industrial era.

It all depends on the type of war or war(s) you are currently involved in or at least expecting to be... If you are more worried about saving up gold or quickly researching science during this war, I would recommend the Face Gov as it is the best gov to be in while going through alot of war. Your supported units is 10 with your large metros and 7 with cities, which is required to support a large enough army to prove victory over your foes... God help if you should have any cities under 6 at about this time except new cities of course :p

It also depends on how your empire is placed, if corruption is a problem, but you still need to worry about war, then I suggest comm while it still supports a fairly large army as well. If this is war with just 1 civ, then perphaps comm is best for now.

Pfeffersack is right, unless you plan on making peace, you can't stay in dem gov or you'll really experience trouble. I agree, if your cities are spread way out, comm is best due to its great corruption control.

But these guys are more experienced than I am, Com Gov may very well be the best gov. to go with under your current condition :)

It doesn't always have to be war weariness to switch to
communism (fascism is a good alternative).
If corruption is very serious problem communism is the
only option. You could also rebuild your capital, but sometimes
it's not an option (in case of 20k culture victory in your
capital).

Hi shaynes. 40 cities on a huge world may be about the point to switch to Communism. This is an extremely powerful government when you don't forget to build the Secret Police Headquarters. Generally in Communism your production will increase, but your research will slow down.

For me there are in generall only two goverments to choose from late in the game: Republic and Communism. The day that the AI switches to Communism instead of Fascism during war is a day to fear

I generally use Communism or Democracy late game. Under democracy I'll fight alot of little wars nibbling away at AI cities. I often fight a series of wars vs 1 AI to avoid WW. Once my empire becomes big enough I'll switch to communism.

I've learned to love Communism during periods of war mongering. That only thing I don't like about it is the pop rush. But it's a minor inconvenience, IMO, when your far reaching cities can actually be productive in the game. And once I switch to Communism, I almost never switch back to Democracy.
