OK, I tried reading the general advice thread and other stickies, apologies if this is stated somewhere obvious but:

When playing MP do all parties have to have the same expansions?
I.e. is it possible for someone with G&K to play against someone without?
is that also true for minor expansion packs?

You can play with someone who has different dlc/no expansion, you just wont be able to use the dlc/expansion that you don't have in common. When you set up the MP game just uncheck the dlc/expansion that the other person is missing or have the person who has the fewest additions host the game.

Another question - what is the simplest way to get a hotseat type MP game going? - I think I will have trouble having all the players online at the same time, so can we pass the save from one to another by any means easily?

(I tried setting up an MP game just in Civ, but for some reason I couldn't invite people from my Steam friendlist who also have Civ V)
