hi

ive been playing my first Civ3 game (Warlord) for sometime now. im playing as the egyptians and, up until recently, ive been running a war mongering monarchy. i got tired of war and having a dominant role over the whole map i decided to hang up me guns and turn into a peace loving democracy. i primarily wanted to improve my commerce and get rid of my horrible levels of corruption. however, my post revolution democratic egypt is costing me more in corruption (-1100) than my previous monarchy (-770). My understanding is that the republic and democratic governments significantly improved corruption, i understand some of the concepts contributing to corruption yet i had assumed that a democratic government would improve, atleast by some measure, corruption levels and not worsen them.

could someone explain whats going on please?

fantastic site by the way, great community.

cheers

This isn't possible as you describe it; corruption has ALWAYS been lower under Democracy than under Monarchy, in every single game I've played. The only thing I can think of is that you're misreading the ledger sheet for your empire, and counting the TOTAL expenses being paid: losses to corruption, building maintenance, and costs to maintain your military (probably a large one, from the way you described your game)

Could you post a save? (If it's a Conquests game, I can't help, because I'm :crazyeye: and only have PTW, but somebody else could have a look)

IIRC, you get commerce bonuses in Republic and Democracy that do not exist in Monarchy. So your whole economy is "bigger", if you will. While it appears you will waste "more", you are actually suffering a lower proportion of corruption.

What was your gross (pre-corruption) income under Monarchy, and what is it under Democracy?

ahh!

sorry, yes, i see now - the whole economy increases immediately and the proportion of loss to corruption reduces even though the number has gone up. if id been somewhat more observant i wouldnt be embarrassing myself! now ive got to shed alot of military units i guess to build some cash reserves.
thanks for the responses.

hmm having now joy attaching my sav file

The easiest method would be to write up a post with the Advanced editor, and go below the post-editing window to the "Additional Options" window. Click the Manage Attachments button, then click "Browse" to hunt down the file you want to attach.

If every tile has 3 trade and demo/rep give a +1 bonsus.... 770 * 4/3 = 1,026 loss in trade. So your average trade per tile is closer to 2 and that would be 770 * 3/2 = 1,155 loss in trade. These numbers assume same corruption levels.
