I'm somewhat of a novice CIV player, so apologies if these questions are very basic.

I'm having trouble connecting my cities to the capital, or at least being able to tell if they are connected to the capital. Specifically...

1. Is there some symbol to show if cities are connected to the capital? I don't see the little yellow triangle above any cities like there was in CIV IV despite having built roads from the capital hex to the other city hexes.

2. It says that when you are allies with a city state you have access to their resources once they are connected. Do I just need to build a road to connect? And, how do I tell if they are connected?

3. Do rivers/coast still connect cities to the capital?

Thanks for any advice!

1. small triangle or 3 connected dots bellow the name of the city (you also get a notification)

2. you do not need a road, the AI needs to construct the improvement for the resource

3. no (exception are coastal cities connected with harbors)

1. You should see 3 yellow areas in a triangle if they are connected.

2. You don't need to have a road to them for resources to be connected. They must have it connected and you allied with them for you to receive them.

3. Rivers don't. Coasts only if you build the harbor in that city.

Hope this helps :goodjob:

Hm... okay.

So, any explanation as to why I've built roads directly from my capital to another one of my cities and don't see the yellow connection symbol? The cities are near each other, no rivers, no enemy tiles between them, and the road clearly goes from one to the other.

I'm wondering if this is some sort of bug? I'm playing on a Mac via Steam, anyone know if there is an issue with this? I tried searching online and it seems some others may have had a problem, but I couldn't find anything to confirm it.

I'm going to try to take a screen shot to post, in case I'm missing something obvious.

can you post a screenshot?

For your second question, the AI also has to have researched the technology that makes the resource accessable for them to be able to get the resource. If they connect the resource after you have allied with them, you will get a notification telling you the AI has gifted you the resource.

The symbol for a trade route looks like this: :c5trade: and it will be visible underneath the name tab when the city is connected to your capital by road/railroad. You won't ever see it at your capital city as it only appears on your non-capital cities.

what I wanna know is: do CSs give you trade route bonuses?

No. This is because the trade route bonus applies only to cities you own. If you build a road to finish the CS quest for influence it's safe to remove the roads connecting you to the CS if you don't want to pay maintenance for them. The influence is a one time reward and there are no reasons to keep the roads except to make it easier to move your units to the CS faster.

good tip, have to remember that :goodjob:

can you post a screenshot?

This. Without a screenshot we can't conclude what is the problem. One possibility is that when u were building roads, a barbarian or enemy unit appeared nearby & u moved ur worker with half-built road. Hover over the tiles to make sure that u actually bult roads completely to connect your cities.

How does one connect a City state across the water?
I had some city state that wanted to be connected, but it was on another continent, I built a harbor, but apparently they didn't have one. The only solution would have been to go settle on that continent, build a harbor, and then build roads..seems a bit much..

Did you clear a path through the fog of war to the city?
That confused me before I found that out.
