Contacting Peer...

I as just curious if anything is going to be done to the Multiplayer Interface to help eliminate the "locked game syndrome" where people can't join with it getting stuck on "Contacting Peer..." or even "Contacting Host..." (very rare a host locks it up, most know how to configure their systems it seems.)

I understand this occurs when someone joins a game who has a misconfigured firewall or antivirus software, but why isn't there a CHECK BEFORE they are even able to enter to make sure they won't hold other people up? It wouldn't be hard to check that the proper ports needed are open, and if not, it shouldn't even let those people click the button to join a game when it is known 100% they cant get in, or if they do, they will prevent others from joining. Pop up an error "We are sorry, your system is unable to access the proper ports to run this game in multiplayer mode. Please visit -insert website here- for more information on how to resolve this issue.

I spend literally 15 minutes per night MINIMUM where I can contact the host, then the first peer, then the second peer, then it just hangs on the third one (or whatever number is screwed up.) This happens between every game I play. There are numerous times where I host that one person joins, then no one else, and when I go to the lobby I'm told "We contacted you, then got stuck trying to contact the peer" so I sat in a game start room with one other person for 10 minutes hoping more would join, and that one other person was causing it to not let anyone else in and the game doesn't know how to check for this in advance?!?!

FIX this problem!!! I want to play, not be trying to get into a game all night because of poor network coding not checking for this prior to allowing someone to lock up a game so no one else can enter!

Thanks,

Well I know that Throughout this forum, There hasn't been a good explanation to what a Misconfigured firewall or antivirus software is. At least back to November 6th.

All I got was 2 different numbers for port opening.
2303 (No Specifications)
and
2056(TCP/UDP)

These were two different threads, but in addition to this I saw a thread that said he did nothing and could host.

I know from experience getting a LAN game to work with my brother, two firewalls operating at the same time classify as "Misconfigured Firewall"

But what Classifies as Properly configured? What is needed. Even with this check this information would be helpful. I get the same trap in "Connecting to Peer" and wonder if it is me. I don't think it is because people have joined a game I am in before, but how can I be sure? Obviously I am not a Computer Guru. My particular talents reside in building buildings, not debugging code=) So how about something useful for Joe Noob?

*Edit* There are hosts that don't seem to be able to take more then one person. What is the cause of this? It allows one, but no more. I have seen this a few times, but then I can't contact Peer. Is this what the Sockets are important for? Open the sockets so there is peer connection? If so, does it mean since people can join after I am in mine is setup right?*Edit*
