Continent of remaining Civ?

What continent should the remaining Civ be from?

No what we need is the Loch Ness Monster as a natural wonder, extra happiness and gold for tourism (They're adding a gaelic civ at the moment so it's now or never) :3

Back to the subject I'm going to speculate on each continent:

Europe (could happen, Eurocentrism for the world! :P ): Sweden (would work good for the Victorian scenario)

Asia: Indonesia (the ancient kingdoms are too obscure for the pop culture to understand so just combine them a la Celts or Polynesia)

Africa: Morocco (Personally don't think Zulu should be in except for tradition, but I won't complain since one of the joys of Civilization is alternate history unfolding)

North America: Cherokee (Little biased since I think they're cool, plus they had a centralized government and a lot of city-names to choose from, such as New Echota)

South America: Columbia (actually Gran Columbia, but they'd probably call it Columbia a la Denmark-Norway being Denmark and so on)

Australia: Australia :D
 
I still wonder if Israel will make it in as a civ. True, it's been mentioned that Jerusalem is a city state - but could that be merely in the "into the renaissance" scenario? Could that have been mentioned to take us off track? Israel would have that "shock" factor, given that it's never been in any version of civ despite being regularly requested and the controversy that could surround having Israel in the game. However, to me, nothing says "gods and kings" - especially the religious part of the game - more than Israel.
 
I voted 'Other' as I bet Sweden with Gustaf II Adolf leading them to kick butt.
A big player for the Renaissance scenario, and lead designer Beach's flagship boardgame has them in a big role I think. Also with only one civ Scandinavia is the most underrepresented place.. ;)

I don't understand a user who wrote in PAX thread how he won't buy G&K if last remaining Civ is european. I'm just thankful we're getting NINE(!!) new Civs and features and details done with great care and love for the game.

I love Zulu as a nemesis and Shaka as an iconic brute just like Bowser in Super Mario. Gameplaywise I just think Zulus can't bring anything super creative abilities but will be pretty straight forward.

My bet: Zulu, Sweden
 
I also voted Other, for Sweden. Gustav as their leader would make them iconic as a very versatile civ - one that can take advantage of the new military changes, whilst encouraging a liberal homeland (so maybe taking advantage of the social policy effects on diplomacy), all the while accomodating a terrain which lacks proper coverage in the game.

Without getting into a historical debate - on which I don't think Israel would really merit an entry, as it was highly irrelevant in ancient times, and has only existed in modern times for just over 60 years - I think including Israel in the game would be a controversial decision in many predominantly Arab nations, as would including Palestine for the consumers in Israel. I think Firaxis would want to avoid that.

As far as the continent of the next Civ is concerned, I do honestly believe that South America is the most underrepresented continent: Their post-colonial history is not acknowledged, despite such historically relevant and interesting nations as Mexico (Alright, technically central american, but hey, close enough) and Gran Colombia. But, as I've said in other threads, the most likely inclusion is Zulu, and so my vote's for Africa. (Although I can hope for an Australian Civ :p)
 
I have just noticed that one of Attila's cities is called Kathmandu (1:35:23 in the broadcast). We were told that they didn't have a city list of their own but stole city names from other civs (or they could have acquired Kathmandu by military means). Does this mean that the final civ is Nepal?
 
I would think that just meant he took the City State, especially since Kathmandu wasn't even in the game until Seoul was taken by the DLC Korean civ.

Civ - Antarctic Researchers
Leader - Earnest Shackleton
UA - Bonus Science for Ice Tiles, Embarked units can move through Ice
UI Research Station - provide food, gold and science, can only be built on Tundra or Ice
UU - Icebreaker - Replaces Destroyer, can move through ice and remove it for 4 turns

or...

Penguin Empire
Leader - Emperor Penguin
UA - Squawk Squawk - 1 food, hammer per water tile worked
UI - Hatchery - Can be built on Tundra or Ice, produces food
UU - Penguin dive parties - Replaces fishingboats, increases the amount of food gathered by 4, can move under ice
 
Why is there no option for Europe? :P
 
Africa because I just don't know a lot of african civilizations and I didn't know a lot about their history.
 
I Really hope the last civ will be sumeria as I think the ziggurat could have a nice religion bonus.
As for Africa/Asia,well,I think its going to be hard to find an worthy historicly rich civilization in africa but if they come up with an interesting one,I will take back my words.
 
I have to agree with one of the earlier posters. Morocco would be a fantastic civ to add. Technically African, and also Arab so now there would be 5 Arab cubs instead of 4. Plus, they do have quite an interesting history with a very unique culture.

They are under "Other." Europe is already over-represented in my opinion, but if you wanted to vote for a civ from a continent that is already over-represented or unrealistic, there is the "Other" option.

This is an extremely Eurocentric viewpoint. What is known from many of the African empires is learned from their trade with European empires. European empires attempted to influence all empires it traded with, and often so aggressively, but you could say that for any non-European continent. What South American or Asian empire was known for influencing rather than being influenced by Europe? None. Imperialism dictated that Europe was the primary influencer of other civilizations, but if we are going to use that criteria to define what is a valid civilization for the game, then we would be limited to just Europe.

Some traits I can think of:

- Somekind of food bonus (Brazil is the top exporter of food commodities in the world)
- Easily spread religion or extra happiness from religion (Biggest Catholic and Evangelic country in the world)
-bonus on resources ( great reserves of minerals, oil and biodiversity)
