Continuing Problem after 1.61

Hey everyone,
I have a continuing problem that I'm hoping someone has found a fix for. It may be buried somewhere deeper in this forum and if so, just point me to it.
Every once in a while my civ 4 will freeze and do one of two things: either flash black and have the ati recovery tell me my graphics card stopped responding then return to the game as normal, or flash black and restart the computer after a few seconds. Now, I've noticed that it mostly happens when a diplomacy screen is opened, but I've also had it happen when I open the civilopedia or the top 5 cities display. Has anyone had this problem? I've learned to deal with it by just autosaving each turn, but I'd like to get it fixed.
I've attached my dxdiag file if it helps.
Thanks in advance:)

Some folks have reduced the lockups (they generate that VPU Recovery) by setting their AGP to 4x instead of 8x per the end of this thread. Another thing is to make sure you have the latest release of DirectX 9.0c (April 2006).
Frequently improved cooling is brought up in some of the threads. That may be something to keep in mind in your troubleshooting. Reducing graphics quality in Civ4 may help to test this. Beyond that, setting a floor fan next to your open case is how a lot of folks test it. This is most common with overclockers but can occur in factory default rigs as well.
Do you have MemSaver = 1 in your civilizationiv.ini? This setting (changing it from 0 to 1) may reduce the load on your card.
Good luck and let us know what works.
