Converting to 64 bit.

I would be very surprised if they ever did that, but then they did make that snazzy launcher screen a few years ago (?) to try and make us "upgrade" to civ6.

Ah yes, the terrible launcher that won't close itself even if we close the game, so we can't open the game again without killing that first.

Enter "ineedlegacyaccess" under BETAS in Steam to enable the legacy launcher.

(You may already know this, but I'll say it again for the benefit of those who don't.)

What is the major implications of it not being 64bit?

On large maps (or even on medium ones in lategame) memory isnt enough and the game starts to down prio things.
The first thing you see is yield icons disappearing from tiles.
When it gets worse I get no free courthouse purchase on city capture.
And then ofc you can get crash because too many units, specially on diety.
I dont play larger than normal size low sea, if you play large or huge you are definitely in for some trouble.

I've been having all of these issues! Didn't realize it was a memory problem. But I often have them (especially yields disappearing) in the first 100 turns...

I've noticed with the "no courthouse purchase on capture" that a restart of civ will make it work correct again.
So playing long sessions seems to also make things worse, because the game leaks a bit of memory over time.

Its not the best of engines but it mostly does the job and I've seen worse.

In that case, additional mods are probably taking up too much memory. Are you frequently encountering crashes?

It’s been more frequent recently, but I thought the crashes might be patch-specific. I’ll keep an eye out more closely now that I know these are all memory related. It’s been a while since I tried to finish a game so I’m not sure how often it would crash if I did…

Is this solved by more RAM? What would be the recommended amount if so? Im rather curious

4GB is the maximum adressable memory for 32-bit.
However 3GB (or 3.5GB) was the actual limit in 32-bit windows ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3_GB_barrier ).
Not exactly sure where the limit is within a 32-bit application running on win64 but it is never more than 4GB.
There were memory extensions, PAE, for 32-bit server os, ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Physical_Address_Extension ) mainly for use with exchange and SQL server.

So theoretically let’s say two people are playing the same version of VP, they should both experience the problem of crashing if there were memory allocation problems?
