Convincing Civs to make a trade/peace

I think what would be a good addition to trading and especially diplomatic treaties such as peace treaty, right of passage, and mutual protection pact would be to be able to convince other civs to make these trades with other civs.

For example, lets say that your friend is in war with another civ. The enemy civ is really tough and he's taken over almost all of your friends territory in a few more turns, the enemy civ will most likely completely destroy your friend civ. Well you don't want that to happen, because your friend is nice and makes good resource trades and such. Don't you wish that when something like that happens, you could bribe the enemy to sign a peace treaty with your friends? My suggestion is that you should be able to do this. You give the enemy some coins, maybe a tech or two, you know, so they agree, its all peaceful, blah blah blah, its a happy ending.

What are your thoughts on this?

PS. This is my first post here, hello everyone.

Can you give any examples of when this sort of thing happened in real history?

Welcome to CFC [party]

I agree with this. I would be really happy to see this. But I'd prefer if you could help negociations.

I think that in one of the articles, either hardgames or gamesradar, they imply that indeed this feature will be in game.

As far as real world examples of this in real life go. The UN is always trying to negotiate peace between warring factions. Palistine Israel being the best known, even if famously unsucessful.

That's true- and you mentioned the UN in there, maybe there could be a technology that could allow you to do so... or something.

hmm, i kinda agree with that, yet I also do agree too. I'm sure there's been no instance in history where a third party tries to intervene on another's behalf without being seen as allies of the enemy (hmm maybe the church actually?)

yet acting as a neutral mediator between two warring civs does make sense, but most of the time, it's the international community (UN) that acts on their powers to convince warring nations to stop, from reasons such as economics or international peace. but trying to extend your influence as a major power with good reputation would make some kind of legit feature in the game. it could help your international reputation and diplomatic victory by bribing both nations to stop, or getting both sides to reach an agreement (maybe by taking control of the diplomatic screen for both parties, and trying to mediate something fair that both sides will agree on).

the best I reckon is to set up treaties and alliances between more than one party, so that you form some kind of bloc (eg. persuade a nation to join an alliance you and some other civ is involved in), where it brings benefits, like freedom and increase of trade (like the European Steel and Coal Community) or increased preferences from other nations (such as UN, or Eurovision).

Group alliances whould involve foreign troops helping allies defend their territory, or liberate occupied cities (like the liberation of Paris. Britain and US didn't keep Paris for themselves, did they?). Downers could be harsh penalties for breaking such treaties. Bringing in other members, or declaring wars, would involve consultation of other nations, which is a big hassle. But overall, these kind of trading or military 'blocs' would be much more stronger and lucrative than your off the line trade pact or military alliance. Examples of 'effective' blocs include NATO, EU, the Oil Trading Nations of the World, or the Entente Cordiale.

I also hate it when I am allied with France and Germany against Japan, when we all fight against a common enemy, yet France and Germany are also having their little war, and repeatedly ask me to declare war on the others.

Diplomacy was one of the areas that everyone wanted to see get stronger. And have Multiparty settlements so that MPP wars get settled would be terriffic. I hate allying with someone because they I know once I get in a war with someone, Ill be in it forever because if I sign a peace treaty, something with cause war to be redeclared within 3 turns, meaning peace never comes.

I really miss the deals from MoO2 where you could tell the other leaders to make peace or war with someone.. I would love it if you could do an under-the-table deal like Furs for Attack against Germans, or something, so you won't have to get involvewd yourself. With this, there could be a chance of the deal leaking, too, especially if someone has a spy in your empire.
