I asked a question in the Newbie forum, but I did not get a definitive answer. And I need it.

The question: If you first build Newton University in a city you get a 100% science boost. What happens if you build Copernicus Observatory in the same city? Do you get +300%, +200% or no further increase on the pre-Newtonian science level?

I did a trial and got NO further increase, but I am not sure of this, since i did not check it properly. I may have changed my science expense level in between. :egypt:

you get %100 for NEwton and the another %100 for cornicus..
so if you have

10 science and get newton then you have 20
then you get cornucus and you have 40

this is somewhere in the FAQ, btw....

you can also simply repost in the newbie thread - often, Qs and As coem so fast some posts get overlooked

You should get 200%, the increases are additive. But the increase is based on the raw science production before any effects from libraries or universities. It can be hard to check, especially with rounding and all that there stuff. :(

With the SETI program do you then get 400% increase?

No hold on.

You start with 10 science

Coper: 20

Newtons :40

SETI: 80

You have an 800% increase on your original science!

Oh OK thanks for enlightening me.

So it is +100% of base science, not modified.

So libraries and universities both work from your base science then?

cymru_man: I think so. There's a thread linked to in the FAQ IIRC where Bamspeedy(?) explains the details.

Correct. A library, university or research lab will give +50% of base science each, ergo:

Base science 10
Library +5
University +5
Research lab +5
Copernicus +10
Newton +10
SETI +10
Total science 55

Well, imagine the nicely aligned tabs yourself :)

No modern city outside of a Golden Age is likely to have much more than 450 beakers at 100% science. For that, you would need a base of 82 commerce (after corruption). If you look at your best city in any game, you'll probably find it closer to 72 commerce, or about 400 beakers at 100% science.

To find the base science of your city, count the number of coin stacks in the city display, subtract the amount corrupt, then multiply by the science rate.

Sayounara, please use the edit button at the top of posts to edit them when you want to change them, instead of making a new post. :)

I see in another thread that you are using AP. Pretty lame if you ask me, just makes it so much easier to dominate the AI. Don't get me wrong, I occasionally like to do this, and it's more fun than playing on chieftain, but comparing AP results with normal results just doesn't make sense.

In Civ 2, the science was not like this. You could build Super Science Cities (SSC),
which literally rocked. With caravans, you could make a SSC to a non-shield-productive
cities, too. :)
