COTM 22 - Ummmmm

Civilization: Not sure.
Land Mass: Small and rocky.
Map size: Standard.
Barbarians: They're everywhere! They're everywhere!
Rivals: Depends. 7-ish.
Difficulty: Monarch
Climate: Looks fairly wet. Bring your togs / cossies / trunks.

Sorry about the delay in this - a bit of lost communication. I had to grab a map I put together a while back, but unfortunately I can't remember many of the details. I guess you'll just have to explore the big-wide-world as it unravels.

I guess the main theme of the pre-game discussion will be to make sure that you move your galley exceedingly carefully. :ack:

WTH?

Question for the experts: When do the barbarians start to have galleys? When someone reaches MM or when someone has a galley?
I believe (and hope here) the first one, but want to be sure.

First moves: I'd say Worker S, then Settler S, then galley E,E,E

Someone on a suicide mission?

Maybe a seafaring civ would be nice.

This one looks interesting.
Something different.
I will play this.

Byzantines or Portugal would be fitting.

Would also be a very nice setup for a new (ancient) civ called Atlantis. Especially if the mountain turned out to be a volcano... :scared:
Traits might be SEA and SCI or AGR.
UU might be some AA unit. Maybe some kind of ship.

Any historians around?

Hope this is an arch, not a crowded pan :)

So this is then the Atlantis COTM. Long awaited it’s coming now. And well prepared as it looks like. In general I would imagine the Atlantians to be Egyptians or Greek. Judging the colour they look like Greeks, but they will be modified – just Atlantians.

Like our historic predecessors we can move :

East – to find something like Africa
West - to find a new America and
North – to discover Europe

The big advantage of the human player will be to know all civs on the continents first with the huge advantage of such an early galley to balance the shortcoming of the late capital foundation. – At minimum 3 turns.

I don’t think there will be huge differences between the landmasses by topography for balance reasons, but they will differ by their inhabitants. Maybe one continent will feature the old American cultures Aztecs, Maya, Inca and the other one Egypt, Sumeria, Hittites and Babylon.

From the start we have two main alternatives. We can:
- go for discovery first investing a couple of turns but gaining a good knowledge of the world to find the best place for settling.
- Decide for one direction and make landfall asap without knowledge of the alternatives but saving a couple of turns

Personally I think most players will go the second route to get the time advantage and have luck with the landing position. We will end up comparing games, in which we had different civ core positions and that will be very interesting. A 'well done' to the mapdesigners!:goodjob:

Concerning the Barbarians, I think there is a simple explanation – Against the Atlantians all civs look like Barbarians.

@ Paul42 : Concerning the setup of some G/COTMS, I realise that there are historians amongst the moderators.

When someone has writing (not too logical.. I know :p)

@Ainwood: You should have made the starting position a hill instead of mountain...

if I find the civ is seafare (galley 4 movments)

I will sail west, wish a better start location.

Settler and worker South. Galley E, E, NE.
I wonder if the other rivals have our disability.
As for color, it looks Greek or Persian.

If there are no Vikings our cyberspace inhabiting friend will at least survive until the advent of marines then.

I sincerely hope this is the case. The older themed GOTMs might bring a lot of players back in to the C3 fold. Not to mention they were some of the best games out there. I particularly liked the old easter eggs, and hope there will be some interesting map features (other than the starting point) and amusements here.

I hope not ... if this game is to be interesting. I am no AI expert, but my guess would be he does not have enough of a long term strategy to immediately decide to ship the settler and worker and sail away.

I would bet a lot of money that this *isn't* our start...

A) Karasu does the COTM, not Ainwood
B) Karasu posted in the question thread, about 10 minutes after this post, that he would get information out soon
C) They posted at 4 am, which is a good time to do wacky stuff ;)

that said - it would be a fun start. You would have to go the coastal route to the east - it's the only clue as to where to go, so you have to go there. Else it's a total crapshoot as to how you do, since you are already losing 2 turns (1 to move to the galley, one to move off the galley) before you can settle...

Hey, it's a better start than the 2004 April game that was an April Fools game. Just a 9 tile square tundra island.
