(Please someone sticky this... ;))

Restrictions: none...

OK, here we go: as I wanted to show that we Germans can be peaceful, too, I went for UN victory this time. (And I really like Bismarck with lipstick... :D) Sent out early curraghs, got many contacts and got the trading going quite ok.

In this game I managed something I never experienced before, and even twice in the same game: I got a second level tech as freebe on entering the next age! At the end of the AA, Babylon and Russia got Monotheism and Engineering, I managed to trade for both and then got Theology as freebe! And again at the end of the MA: Babylon and Russia got Steam and Medicine and I got Industrialization. Quite a stroke of luck, we could all have gotten useless Nationalism...

Except for some early fishing for war happiness on the Zulu/Indian continent, I kept the world peaceful, and consequently the AI continued to be useful as trading partner. And once I was importing enough luxuries, I restored cordial relations with the Zulus and Indians again as well. Of course a little bit of warring had to be: for resources, for starting my GA and for getting some territory for science farms. But I kept all these wars "local".

My first target was the Vikings. They had settled both the iron island and the saltpeter resource on the two western islands. So I captured these with Longbows and then proceeded towards the Vikings' main land in order to take Trondheim: it had built the Statue of Zeus. My plan was to trigger my GA at the end of the MA by capturing the Statue of Zeus (MIL) and completing the Newton University in Berlin. That was the earliest possible time for me, as the AI was just too quick building all the AA wonders. With an invasion army of 30-40 units (mostly Cavs, muskets and the leftover LBs and MIs from the invasion of the islands) I conquered the southern half of their main lands (including Trondheim) and then made peace, as my stack had dwindled down to like 10 units.

During the next 20 turns, a new stack from the core took over America, as that was quite backward and not even good for contributing any gpt for techs. When the 20 turn peace deal with the Vikings expired, I sent the American stack over to Scandinavia to finish the job. (It was quite unlikely that the Vikings would vote for me... :mischief:, so better eliminate them completely.) Meanwhile I had 3 or 4 Cav Armies, so the rest of Scandinavia was captured quickly.

Originally I had planned no further wars, but as there was still a lot of time before the election, I decided to take out Egypt as well and increase my score a bit that way. (And also I wanted to see the glorious Panzer Armies in action... :D) Egypt had no rubber, so it was quite tempting. The Cav Armies and other troops from Scandinavia started taking towns, and then two Panzer Armies finished the job in the last few turns.
After not getting MGLs for quite a long time, I finally got a few at the end of the American campaign: first I got two in a row (meaning: elite victory -> leader, retreat and form Army, elite victory -> leader! I have never seen this before!) and right the next turn I got a third one. For lack of other things to build I built HE, Military Academy and Pentagon, so by the time Panzer became available, I had two empty Armies on store and short-rushed the necessary Panzer.

During the IA the AI became less useful for researching techs for me (besides the usual Nationalism, Communism, Fascism I think I only got Corporation and Refining while I was busy going for Darwin and Replaceable Parts), but they still contributed immense amounts of gpt and many luxuries.

In the end I achieved UN victory in 1040 AD with a Jason score in the 9000s.

I think Germany was very well suited for a map like this. Even though it is not sea-faring, it benefits from half-priced harbors (thanks to being militaristic), and this feature was a key element for fast research (besides the half-priced libraries and universities, of course). And thanks to Christmas break I had enough "real time" to use intense forestry operations for once: every single tile on my main continent has been planted and chopped...

Thanks Lanzelot for the spoiler and the thread! Now would someone please start a new game as well? I haven't had much time lately, but in the next few weeks I should be getting more.
