Couple of UI questions

Sorry to be an idiot if these questions are answered a million times already on these forums (fora?) but I tried searching and got so many answers my sub-woofer exploded and I fell off my chair. Anyhoo, I used to play Civ 2 all the time (lost a couple of years of my life to it), and I'm trying to get into Civ 3 but...

1, I am playing with the max amount of other Civ's (is it 16?) but on the Diplomatic Advisor's screen I can only see a few of these. I noticed on another screen shot on this site that there was a button on this screen labelled "More Civs" but I have no such button. Is this available in a patch or is it in PTW or Conquests only?

2, In Civ and Civ 2 I could see on a City Screen what was making the people happy/unhappy but I can't see an equivalent in Civ 3. For example my people are clearly getting fed up with my constant warring but I cannot see just how much unhappiness is a result of war-weariness.

Any help would be massively appreciated. Cheers!

Jo!

1: Are you using the 1.29f patch for plain civ (no expansion packs)? If not, get it (it's available on this site or just google for it, and go to the Firaxis page for it).

2: You can tell why people are getting unhappy if you click on an unhappy person. You can tell why someone would be happy by the different happy faces next to certain items (luxuries, temples, cathedrals, etc.).

Hope this helps! Don't be afraid to ask more questions. :)

1. I think you can change the people on the dip screen with a shift-right click. I know it's in the FAQ, because that's where I read it!

2. If you click on the unhappy faces, it'll bring up a box with details of what's upsetting them.

Just click the unhappy citizens in city screen. They would say something like:
"57% It is too crowded, 43% Gice peace a chance".

Welcome to CFC! [party]

Edit: Way too slow...

Fora = forums. Plural of forum. People like to think they're cute...;) :joke:

Anyhoo, to borrow your phrase....you can see them all. Just takes a bit of doing.

Shift right click on a civ, and you should get a menu to take that particular civ out and bring in a new one. Yes, it's a pain in the butt.

Way back when, during development, Civ3 was going to have 8 civs total. One more than the previous incarnations. Well, somebody thought they could market it better with 16 civs, so it was rushed in. This was after the foriegn advisor screen was coded, and I'm guessing they decided to patch it instead of rewriting it.

And 2) Click or right click on an unhappy person, and you'll see what's making them upset. If you see 'It's just too crowded here', that's the default. So get more luxs or increase your lux slider.

On 2) You can see with the mentioned method why people are unhappy.
However, the Civ2 info why they are happy isn't really available in Civ3. A bit odd at first sight, but in fact that wouldn't help much anyway, since there are many more reasons for unhappiness. You see, though, how many 'Happy Faces' Luxuries or a city improvement generates - but keep in mind those HF are weighted against 'Unhappy Faces'.

Thanks to all of you, I now have the mentioned patch and I will have a go at the various tips suggested just as soon as the missus goes out again!

Cheers!
Jo
