In Civ III, it was useless to build a courthouse in your capital city because corruption was determined by distance from the capital. In Civ IV, maintenance costs are determined by size and civics as well as distance from the city.

Is it worth it to build a courthouse in the capital, or is it a waste of time like in previous versions of the game?

If you have six cities including your capital, building one in your capital will allow you to build the Forbidden Palace.

With a large enough empire you will eventually get some maintenance cost even in your capital that a Court can help with. Takes quite a while, though...

I have a maintenance cost of over 4-5 in my capital in the game i m currently playing, with a court, which only takes me like 2 turns anyways, it is a lot better now, at around 1-2. I think more than 1, cuz my forbidden palace city has 1 and i was wondering why it has less maintenance than the capital...
