CPU/GPU fans getting noisy

I have a pretty good desktop configuration (Ryzen 9 7950, 64GB RAM, RTX 4070), yet after I start the game, all fans are going berserk with 100%, which is quite noisy. The game itself runs smoothly. Is there anything I can do to prevent heating up and running all the fans on max.

You need to fix your computer cooling so that when all resources are in use (100% cpu and 100% gpu) cooling is still capable of handling it without excessive noise.

I would say rough estimate that this game uses 50-60% of your cpu (and some core much more -> heat) and 100% of your gpu. If that is noisy you simply have bad cooling setup. But hard to say more. Maybe open thread in tech support forum here and detail all the components and cooling system you have. And maybe then you get tips what to do.

From game side lower all settings and from GPU driver set FPS limit for the game. That makes less load to your components and they use less power and maybe then your cooling can handle it. But that is just circumventing the real problem.

Press windows key & g to bring up game bar and check how much CPU and GPU the game uses for you. If either are at 100%, then that could be why.

I just did some testing and this is strictly what determines my fan speeds. If I set graphics level to low, my GPU tops out at 35% or so, and the fans don't even come on. With graphics set to high, I get 75-100% GPU usage and the fans are at high speed.

You need to either:
1) Limit framerate by using vsync and a lower monitor refresh rate (this game doesn't support selecting specific refresh rates like Civ 6)
2) Limit framerate using the GPU driver (I'm not familiar with how to do this on AMD)
3) Lower your graphical settings in the game

I'm curious what resolution you are using? I am @ 1080p with a RTX 3060.

The fans on my new laptop kick into high gear too, its quite worrisome; I don't want to break my new laptop. I remember when Civ 5 came out it killed my then graphics card with screen tearing. I've got an i513500H with a RTX 4050; 16G Ram. Tried both Medium and High graphics settings, both make the fan run at high nonstop. Sucks because even medium is quite a bit lower than I would like, I don't want to go to low. Maybe we need to find the particular setting that's causing the issue. I remember on other games things like shaders or reflections or some specific thing would be the issue. I'll try limiting the framerate, thanks for that.

Just setting change does usually nothing. Lower settings -> higher FPS and same power consumption.

Setting change always needs to be accompanied with FPS limit of some form. In-game it is only v-sync = display refresh rate.

GPU drivers offer customizable limit.

I've got the same issue, fan runs constantly and noisy.

Is it corsair 500D SE RGB case? With RGB fans glowing through front glass panel? If so that case is very unoptimal for air cooled computers.

Take off the front glass panel in you see improvements from medium to signifact amount.

All air cooled computers need full mesh front, no glass ever!

P.S. is that 165 FPS from Civ VII game? Do you need that high? Limiting it will reduce everything...

Wow, I opened the door and now I'm running Civ VI and Civ VII concurrently and the fans are totally silent.
Is it this case? https://www.corsair.com/us/en/p/pc-...d-rgb-se-premium-mid-tower-case-cc-9011139-ww

Side panel door opening help also usually. But the main problem propably is the front panel first and foremost. Front fans have hard time sucking air through the 1 cm gap at side of glass front panel. Remove that permanently and you have ventilation improved corsair 500D permanently!

Thank you for this! Limiting the Frame Rate in the Nvidia Control Panel to 90 did the trick, its running much more smoothly; fans sometimes kick in on a medium speed but not at the high speed they were doing before. It was running around 140fps so I guess that was too hot to handle. So for @mikrokupusar @Noble Zarkon and anyone else having the fan issue might want to try it.

The front panel seems pretty integrated but I've capped the FPS (and cleaned the fans lol) so we'll see how it goes.

Ok. Sounds good.

I do not actually know if the front panel can be removed. I just assumed so. I quickly checked manual and there is no instructions it seems.

However from manual and from my memory

Are all of the holes between front panel and the case itself open? I think I might have seen a video or review that said that some of can be closed by default. But I could be mixing cases.

Bottom line make also sure that behind the panel all openings are open if there is some removable clips etc. As open as possible!
