So I have been playing Civ IV since it first came out, including Warlords and now BTS. I have always had issues with the game slowing down and sometimes freezing while playing. I had tweeked some things and although annoying I could play through a game with only a few system restarts. And the crashes always happened post-gunpowder.
Now I am playing BTS and the freezes are even worse. I don't crash to desktop. The game will freeze when I move to a unit, click on the map to another area, end turn, etc. It's typically when the map moves quickly to a different area of the map. The freeze usually happens by all improvements disappearing from the screen, leaving the land and water, then after a few moments, the screen goes black and flickers between black and brighter black. I then have to hit the manual reset button on my machine.
How can I fix this?
My machine specs are:
P4 3.00 GHz
1.00 GB RAM
GeForce FX 5200
I have updated all video drivers and play the game on the lowest resolution, with the lowest settings with most everything turned off (I still have the movies turned on since I am dying to see what was added in BTS; besides, it doesn't seem to crash because of the movies).
