Crash with victory screen

I've completed the first two conquests on Civ3. At the end it will go through a couple of the victory screens (ie. power/culture histogram, etc), and then crashes in the same spot. It closes and windows gives me one of those pop-up error messages. It doesn't log my victory, either. Any ideas about what is going on?

I had the exact same problem and after searching everywhere for an answer I saw something that I checked out.

Go into the conquests folder and look for the file campaignrecord.hof. Check to see if it is marked as a read only (right click -> properties) - mine was. Uncheck read only and then reload your save game, finish and you will not get the victory game crash and you will see you score in the hall of fame.

Hmm sounds like you bought a late copy of Civ Complete. This is one of most commom problems that occurs where its actually the games fault
Some Lazy progrmmer I guess forgot to drink his coffee that day.

Indeed. I've noticed I have this problem now too. I got Complete (with Atari pre-screen) in 05, and not a hitch. But, the C3C that came in the big Civ Chronicles (with Take-2 pre-screen) has this victory screen crash problem.

Good to know about this fix though. Thank you once again to the Civfanatics forums >.>
