Crashes during starup

Have a brand new Dell E1705 with X1400 video card. Installed WinXP Media Center SP2 with all patches. Running the Dell ATI Driver (can't seem to get the Catalyst driver to load properly). Install of game goes fine, but when trying to run, it either crashes during initial load (with generic Windows failure, nothing specific like listed in other forums) or it crashes when running the tutorial (same crash, generic Windows crash).

Anyone else had this sort of problem?

* I am not sure if Civ4 cooperates too great with Media Center edition.
* Is your Civ4 also fully patched? (1.52)
* Close any other software running (antivirus, antispyware,...)
* Try running a nocd crack
* Try disabling all possible things in the ini file (movies, audio, autosaves) to see if you still get crashes
* search in forums for similar problems

I have installed the latest 1.52 patch. No other software running. Have disabled almost everything from the .ini files.

I've searched through several forums, and so far haven't found anything that seems like my problem.

I've even gone so far as to unintall the game, uninstall my graphics driver, reinstall the driver (Dell proprietary driver, not the ATI catalyst driver), and then reinstall the game.

Anyone have any ideas?
