crashing problems???

Hey everbody,

I have a weird problem when i play CIV4. Sometimes i can get into the game, and play it for a bit, but sometimes it will crash before the map even starts (but it never crashed in the menue. When i get "civ4 has encounted an enexpected error and must quit", i get the following details.

C:\DOCUME~1\2\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER8f3e.dir00\Civilization4.exe.mdmp
C:\DOCUME~1\2\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER8f3e.dir00\appcompat.txt

I have heard of this happening alot in CIV3, but all the places i read it were in German so have not been able to get any stait answers.

Is it giving you the "out of video memory" message?

Also, is it when you open saves that the game crashes?

nah, i dont get the "out of video memory" problem and the game crashes as soon as i open a new one, or if i load a saved game it crashes about 30 seconds later. Hardware specs are

Opteron 165
1gb ram
7800gt- 84.14 forceware drivers (had issues with all other dirvers aswell)

confusing isn't it?

What is your PSU? If its 250w then your hardware is sucking all the power. Tri upgrading to a power supply with 350w or better. That could salve your problem.

well i actually have a 550w neopower its 85% efficiency (is that how u spell it?). It never occured to me to actually send the report to microsoft and they porvided me with a workaround, it was something to do with exeptions cause the harddrive couldn't access the file- if anyone has the same problem here is the microsoft link-

this actually didn't work on my computer but i thnk ive ghot it working now, i created a new user (even though i was admin) and its been workin fine 4 a bit finally i can take down that stupid english city!
