So I'm a Mac user and I love modding the Civ games, have for a while (a few of you may remember me from Civ 3 modding back a while ago). Anyway, now that I'm on a Mac computer and have gotten around to getting Civ 4, I want to mod it, but I'm have a hard time doing so, mostly because of not being able to do the graphics stuff (and the lack of a nice easy editor like Civ 3 had. So here's my question: Does anyone have tips for C&C on a Mac? Good .dds editors like was made for Windows? A good Scenario editor like was made for for Windows? Anything to help me out so I don't need to go find a Windows machine to do my editing for my game?
Thanks in advance!

Sadly there is not real creation and customization available for mac users...unless your running windows like myself. :p

Well, you do have XML and Python, but beyond that there's really not much you can do. :(

You can do XML and Python from some of the common software you'll find floating around on the internet.

As for modeling, I suggest Blender 3D,modeling program that can export to the .nif file format Civ 4 uses with the help of a python script that's around here somewhere...

.dds files can be handled with GIMP and a script that can be found here.

All these programs are free. ;)

Terrific! Just the information I've been looking for, thank you very much.

SAVE:
The blender nif scripts don't work with Mac...
.dds files can be handled with gimp, but I'm not sure if they are mac compatible again.
But that's all the stuff I use in Windows anyway...:D
So ultimately in the end the only thing you can do without doubt is:
Python
XML

That is the weirdest thing I've heard all day, and I've just had one of the strangest days of my life. Why doesn't the script work on Macs? It's the same program, same script, same Python codecs, same everything, basically. So what's different besides the fact that one is a Mac and one is a Windows PC?

^There is no scripts folder in macintosh... This is like a lot of Mac Freeware, they give you the application, a readme, etc. and nothing else.

be careful if you MOD some python on a windows area for MAC . Because MAC use python 2.3 and windows use python 2.4 .

Tcho !

You're fooling yourself, it does too have a scripts folder. It's just hidden in blender.app in one of the greatest feats of programing stupidity ever.

Add modeling to the list of things you can do on a Mac.

Wow. That is a great feat in programming stupidity. So does the dds plug in for GIMP work as well?
