Does anyone happen to know what criteria is being used for the UN Head voting? I was playing a game as Germany in which I had the highest civ score of any of the remaining civs (500pts), with the Iroquois in second (350pts). Also, on the culture histogram I held about 60% of the world's culture points. I was at peace with every existing civ, the most advanced scientifically as well as the most wealthy. Well, I decided it would be a safe bet building the UN and taking the win with only 8 years left before 2050. Wouldn't you know it, Hiawatha was voted as the UN head unanimously (with the exception of my vote of course.) Needless to say, I'm dumbfounded. Anyone have any input:confused:

I believe you need to be on friendly terms with everyone if you want to win diplomatically:)

The first game I accidentally won by diplomacy when I was voted in by everyone except India (I was the chart topper with India second) Of course everyone was polite with me with a few even at gracious level...hehehe

Don't mix up culture with diplomacy. There are SIX ways to win...
CULTURE is one (20k in 1 city, 200k total or something?)
DIPLOMACY is another (win by UN)

needless to say, your rank on the culture chart counts toward the CULTURE victory, while your behavior and reputation in DIPLOMACY counys toward the DIPLOMACY victory :)

(I made this mistake a couple of times by allowing the vote -- when u build the UN it asks you every time if you want to vote and the default is YES so if youre not looking, youll allow a vote -- thank GOD for autosave :)

You have to really kiss AI butt to get a diplo win. Trading and MPP is the best way to get others to like you. Anyone you've been at war with will likely vote against you or abstain. Since you have the UN, you can always turn the vote down and go for the culture or histogram win.

yes, kissing ass helps. I Was able to get an easy diplomatic win at about 1880 AD. I then went back a few turns to try and get another type of win because I was doing so well (wanted to try space race, and culture, I think I can do both with my current civ). It gets really annoying though to say no to the UN vote EVERY turn, I wish you could turn that off (does anybody know how?)
