Hi guys, I've also posted this thread on the official 2k forums, but I thought you guys might help me as well:

I've just bought Civ5 Gold edition from Steam, and it plays just fine, for the most part. The only thing that really bothered me was the absence of visual differentiation between units of different civilizations. I found two different mods to improve this situation: One called R.E.D. Modpack and the other Ethnic Units. Both of them crash the game whenever I try to start a new game or load one. Ethnic units crashes as soon as I click "start game" or "load game" and R.E.D. crashes midway into the nation leader's intro (I don't know if this helps).

Two of my friends bought the game on Steam that same day, and they both play with one of these mods activaded with no problem at all. The main difference is that one of them has Vista and the other Windows 7, while I have XP64-bit Professional.

Also, I already tried turning steam into offline mode, resetting the cloud multiple time and verifying the game cache files. Nothing worked.

My DXDiag info is below:

Thank you very much for your help.

It would be advicable to update your XP to SP3 (which is one of the minimum requirements), as well to update your graphics card driver, which is nearly 2 years old.
Just to exclude any problems with that.

Just updated the drivers, didn't make any difference, however. XP x64 never got an SP3 as did regular (32-bit) XP.
