After a 9 year absence from the game I have been reading some strategy guides on this game and I quite like Cult of PLanet and the Gaians. Kicked the difficulty level up to the one above talent. Got of to an average start- less than ideal start location to the west of Phorlus Rifge or whatever its called and all of the good settlement locations were covered in fungus. Nothing to great in regards to bonus resources either. My starting pet worm managed to harvest a few though and I found some monoliths and to the east it was very arid and covered in fungus. The NE part of the continent (about 20 squares away maybe more) was fertile and had good resources but was inhabited by the Drones. A quick DoW and my worm army (all 4-5 of them) wiped them out although they escaped in a pod somewhere else.
It is now the mid game and I have just discovered airpower, Marr is quite power as far as the AI teams go and most of my cities are size 4-7 with a couple around size 10. Most of them aren't very productive except a few near the coast that have thermal boreholes and the inland ones are building tree farms and the like but that will take a while to come online.
The empire is held togather by string and glue though. A reasonable amount of wurms are spread throughout the empire as I turned lifeforms up high, but I have nor standing army as such and m using democracy, green, and knowledge SE. Most of my garrisons are 1/1 trance or 1/3 trance all clean, the airforce is 3-4 1/1/8 clean needlejets, missiles are my new tech, and my navy consits of 3 missile BC (6/1/8) and several wormhunters (2/2/6 foils clean, trance) hunting IoD's in fungus- I have around 4-5 of those.
Marr and the Pirates are the strongest AI teams. I think that I have more or less already won though as my infrastructure is about to come online and I can pump out kinda crappy units and use my cash to upgrade them to whatever I like and use psi forces and airpower to destroy the enemy. No strong land powers share my continent although the pirates have settles the monsoon jungle or whatever its called in the fair north of the continent.
THoughts on how to proceed.? Give the AI time to build up, go to war or play as a builder? Are the CoP any good on the higher difficulty levels as early on captured mind worms make good police units for them.
