Hey guys,

I apologize for the simplistic question, but I did a search and couldn't find an answer. I haven't played Civ IV in a couple months, and when I installed 1.52 I noticed something strange - the cultural borders were all gray (I was playing as Germany). I believe I remember Germany having 'gray' as it's default border color, but Elizibeth was a neighboring Civ, and her borders were gray too. It makes it hard to distinguish where my border ends and hers begins.

Thanks for the help.

And oh, it felt good to play again after such a long hiatus. =)

If anyone knows how to configure these border colours btw, do tell ...

Yes, I would like to hear something on this as well.

IRT original post, I'm sure your game is working properly. It just so happens that Elizabeth and Germany have extremely similar colors. I just recently started playing Germany, and the pale gray is an annoying color.

There supposedly is difference between Germany and England, but it's not as obvious as it should be. This has been discussed elsewhere. I'm sure when you bump into someone else, you'll see there's more colors.

Seriously?

I could have sworn England's color were red, or at least something more distinguished than a pale gray. But, like I said, it's been a couple months.....

When I get home I'll have to boot up my save and really look closely at the borders. It's unlike me to overlook something this simple.

But, as for now, this thread topic is offically changed to customizing border colors!! Myself, along with obviously a few others, would like to know how to do this.

Any thoughts from the modders out there?

England is white
Germany is grey

that is true for all 4 leaders (i.e. vicky and lizzy are white)

Always been that way.

The problem with the colors is that the transperancy is so strong that it's very hard to tell the differance between grey and white, same goes with alex and cyrus, they are both kinda bluish..

Only so many colors we can easily distinguish and there's a boatload of civs in this game.

Cheers!

If you don't like the default colors in Civ IV, try looking in the graphics forum. The English are red in at least one of the mods there. You can also get some new flags while you're at it.

Is it even really possible to come up with 18 different colors that all have stark contrast with all of the others? Hate to be a party pooper, but sounds to me like an unsolvable problem.

Colors should be Random except for the players. Personally I dont care what color my enemy is as long as I'm Red. When im red, and then I can judge each civ by colors. i discovered subconsciencly I tend to attack countries based on color. like if their light colors I attack them first. This has been true in every case so far I've attacked the nearest light colored nations first. As a matter of fact my first full game, I attacked spain first and their border was kind of a light brown shade i guess maybe light brown, so anyways I conquered them, then I attacked the Aztecs who had a Green Border, light green. Even tho strategically it would had been better to take out the Romans a Dark Purple, So that I may march my troops in one single direction as i took the continent. Anyways After I took out the Aztecs, the Greeks were a dull blue color, and so I took them out, and then the Romans a dark purple, I should of took Rome out instead of the Aztecs, because Rome wasnt advanced, and ti would allow me to march eastward towards the greeks and Aztecs, instead I marched east from the former spanish border, and get the Aztecs, then Sswing my troops South Ward, and hit the greeks, then Westwar d towards the romans, then Eastward so I could put them on ships to goto the other Continent, where I destroyed Mali which was a yellowish brown color, and then Japan a Dark Red.

I'm sorry, but that's a terrible idea. Game-to-game consistency is essential for simplicity. I don't want to think I'm next to Ghandi (purple) when in fact it is actually Alexander.

I think you need to come up with a name for this, and put it somewhere in the Strategy section.

You might be on to something here. :scan:

Unsolvable problems are for those $19.00 games, not the mighty Civ industry. Could Sid really create this great game, only to not be able to fix the colors problem?:p
