[CULTURAL DIVERSITY] Suggestion Thread

How do you do that? I am quite new to modding, I do XML and the static graphics like leaderheads and buttons and stuff, but nothing with Python or CGI animation. I have various 3D programs (Bryce 6.01, ParticleIllusion 3.0, Wings 3D), but I have no idea how to make units with them.

It's simple if you can code XML (which I believe anyone can ;) ), all of the merging required with this mod is XML only - and I'm doing all of the original XML work to get all my art ready in game for you to use, so it should be easy after that. No graphics or modelling skills required unless you want to make your own units. ;)

As for RE, you can get good grades if you choose to study your own religion, you won't really learn anything useful about it, but at least it is more GCSEs. I took Judaism and Islam (my RL religion)...

At my college it was compulsory :cringe: and we mainly studied christianity although we touched on islam, judaism, buddhism and hinduism. I would consider myself to be either atheist or agnostic (can't make up my mind :mischief:.)

Also, I'm using the VD module format (as much as I hate modules) so it should be very easy to merge them I guess.. a matter of moving files maybe? Possibly a little XML work..

I feel your pain (I'm making 40 odd civs for a civ addon mod all of those modular). Modular components are a pain in the proverbial butt to make. But the benefits for the end users far out weigh the trouble we go to to make them. They are easier for people who do not know much about modding to add them to their mods ( I know a couple of people have successfully added several of my modular civs to the Next War mod) And if they are like the Fishman and have some knowledge of XML they can easily delve into your work and change that they need to.

I'm still looking forward to your first release. I hopefully will include it in my next update of Ionut's Civs with the Romanian EDU as well.

Leaderheads are the worst to code (with XML) and then Civs I would say... and then making them modular as well. :cringe: Units are bad for crashes though, because with the new BTS unit art files you get one typo or reference something you've forgotten to make an artdefine for... well you start getting crashes ingame rather than an XML error on startup. So you have to spend some time looking for where you screwed up.

As I said before don't look forward to it too much because it won't be as complete as I would've hoped. What you can definitely expect from my first release however (this month) :

8+ new Great General unit graphics (including medieval and modern ones).
2+ new Great Artist unit graphics.
2+ new Great Prophet unit graphics.
Some other Great People, and Missionaries.
Complete overhaul of Settlers.
Complete overhaul of Warriors.
Workers, Scouts, Explorers - Hopefully.
Also some other units, and most that are currently in VD.

The Aztec warlord is finished, and I also made a Zulu warlord to compliment him. ;)

Thanks to sepamu for making the African mace. :D

Cool!:goodjob:
These units are going to add a lot of character when playing the Aztec or Zulu!
Do you plan to do unique generals for each civ?

I'm going to do one for most civs but for the ancient generals there's only going to be a celtic one for celts, english and the french, and a slavic/nordic one for russia and scandinavia. Inca and Maya are going to share one as well.. still deciding for the other civs.

The medieval and modern ones will be more specific.

AND for each graphical era? :yeah:

Yep. :)

Hope I get it finished on time  I've been pretty sick and had lots of work so it's not looking too good though. :(

It's also the 22nd here. ;) (but that could be to do with the 8 hours inbetween posting).

DUM DUM DUM, 4 more days. As I'm not one for cultural diversity mods I'll probly dl this one later, but the units look great and the mod looks promising. keep up the good work :)

Also, a suggestion for Civ colours. Perhaps just add Civ colour to those units that aren't obviously unique

Thanks ripple01 :) I enjoy making the units so it's no problem. Except the XML is incredibly boring (and annoying when I make mistakes) but it's all worth it. The final release will be great. :D
