After reading in the lore subforum about how the factions were developed from the "philosophy's" of the different magical spheres, I've gotten somewhat curious about how that process occured from the factions (Since it seems an interesting idea for developing them.) I swear at some point I was able to find some threads called "(faction) ideas/development" or something similar, but can't find them now. Were/are there any such threads?

(This is pretty much pure curiosity, something hopefully interesting to read about, not for anything specific.)

The gods dominion was the first guide in finding the mechanics for each of the civilizations, but it wasn't a hard rule. We could have found a more "creation" themed mechanic than super cities. But the mechanic was cool and it worked out well for the Kuriotates.

Im some cases I has a good idea of what I wanted from each of the civs early on. I knew I wanted a civ that focused on great people (the Sidar) and I knew I wanted a civ that focused on rituals (the Illians). I wanted to highlight/take advantage of the different gameplay mechanics we had available to us.

And in some cases I had no idea what a Civs mechanics should be. In those cases I wrote up the background of the civ, how it differed flavor wise form other civs, what the dominion stood for and let the team pitch ideas. Some of my favorite civ ideas came from this (I still remember reading Woodelf's idea for the Khazad to have happiness/production bonuses/penalties based on their treasury amount and knowing immediately that it was perfect for them).

In some cases the flavor we wanted form the dominion was perfect, in some cases it wasn't but at the end of the day we tried to pick mechanics that made the civ the most interesting to play.

I thought there used to be design threads for a bunch of the civs that I released public at some point too (I remember at least releasing the Kuriotate and Khazad threads) but I can't find those either.
