I have been playing Civilization 1 for over 15 years, and it has always been my favourite game.

For the last 6 months or so, I have enjoyed the extra fun of creating customized terrain from Dack's Terraform program.

Recently, however, I was considering the default rules when a Customized World is created. For example, does anyone have a nice summary of what changes when you choose:

land mass: small, normal, large
temperature: cool, temperate, warm
climate: arid, normal, wet
age: 3, 4, 5 billion years

I'm interested especially in the interactions.
e.g., warm/arid gives you desert
warm/wet gives you jungle
etc.

For example, I was never exactly clear what combinations would give more grassland vs plains.

Thanks,

I think it's like this:

Land mass settings should be obvious as to their function, but even "large" landmasses are nowhere near the size they can be in later games.

Arid - More deserts and plains instead of grassland, and less rivers
Normal - In between
Wet - More jungles and grasslands and more rivers

Cool - More tundra
Temperate - In between
Warm - More deserts

3 Billion - More mountains as compared to hills, and terrain tends to be the same over large areas
4 Billion - In between
5 Billion - More hills as compared to mountains, and terrain varies widely over a small area
