Damn Service Pack 2!

I've been playing my copy of Civ 4 for some weeks now, its been running perfectly fine from the beginning. (i.e fine without any patches) I put my Civ 4 disc in the drive yesterday and I get the damn wrong CD-ROM message (using the DVD edition, btw). In fact, neither my CD burner nor my DVD drive will even recognize the CD.

The only thing I can think of that has changed since I last played is the installation of Windows Service Pack 2.

Another thing, the game works (just) on my old computer that does not have Service Pack 2, I would like to keep playing on this one as it has all my saved games, etc. Can anyone help me?

Assuming that all was well before SP2, its possible that the SP2 loader caused a problem, see below for a possible fix, no guarantees

If you do it BACK UP the registry, serious grief can be caused if you blat the registry and have no back up......

Sorry, the whole drive seems to have screwed up, i.e it won't read anything. I'm not sure if its just coincedence that the drive stuffed up after SP2, but I don't think it is, because our CD burner can still read CDs. Thanks for the help anyway.
