Dark Screen In Game Play No Error Messages

Hi from oz,Just bought civ4 dvd version 6 hours ago, the game works but the screen is very dark and when the conversation window comes up all you can see are their eyes and mouth , any ideas as to why guys , im hanging to get addicted AGAIN LOL DXDIAG ATTACHED
