OK, now that I've had a break of a week from civ, I've decided to start a new game again. On chieftain level, like already said in the other thread....

The settings I'll use will be: Archipelago, 5 bill., warm, wet, 60 % water, sedentary barbarians and 8 AI's, which will be mostly scientific and expansionist.

Because my computer is too slow to run Moonsingers' lovely mapfinder thingy, I'll try to get a map the oldfashioned way...
So this might take me a while.

I'll be playing as an agricultural civ, but I'll decide my second trait when I get home tonight. (either scientific, industrious or commercial)....

I'll keep you posted on my progress after I've found a good map...

At the risk of my Mayan harping getting old, I'm going to recommend them for this endeavour. As we previously discussed in the traits thread, I think the Scientific trait can be worked around since you're playing Chieftain. Additionally, I think Industrious would outweigh Commercial, given the Agricultural means more people, hence more income.

I know Industrious was reduced form 200% to 175%, but trust me, it's hard to notice...

Any which way you go, I wish you luck!

I completely agree superslug.
At chieftain level I don't think I need the free tech, but at higher levels I sure do prefer it.

Mayans it is...

The purpose of the mapfinder is to run it while you are sleepping. Therefore, slow CPU is ok too. Instead of calculating 8000 maps a night like on my P4@3.45 GHz, it could easily run through a few hundred maps on any PII@400 MHz system. Whatever you do, don't sit there and watch because that's really slow and boring.;)

I know Moonsinger.
But my really old and slow computer takes around 60-70 seconds to load a map, and another 20 to save it, while the max is 16 seconds in mapfinder, AFAIK...
So I think it just won't work on my computer, especially with the neccessary reload after 45 minutes in C3C (or is this fixed already?), but if I'm wrong, please correct me!!!!! :)

If I have known that, I would have increased the range for you - absolutely no problem at all. It would take me about two minutes to do that (1 min to boot up my system and 2 to recompile and upload it CFC), but I'm not home at the moment; therefore, I will fix that tonight.

Thanks Moonsinger! :)

No problem! If there is any problem with the MapFinder, don't hesitate to let me know...because I can't fix problem that I'm not aware of.;)

I downloaded this latest version and I'm back not having the games saved. The utility runs normally but there are never any saved games. I don't need the utility for a while because I need to finish the Monarch game I'm on now.

Considering people have stopped this threadjacking... ;)
I thought I'd just let you know I've found a promising map, which I'll be playing to around 10 AD and then I'll post some specs about that game, if I continue it, of course...

I'm curious Darkness, which AI did you pick?

Scientific:
Russia
Persia
Ottomans
Babylon
Greece

Expansionist:
America
Zulu (already dead)
Mongols

Russia has both qualities and is the only one I haven't met yet.

The expansionist civs proved useless in popping huts for techs, but the Mongols met Babylon and the Ottomans and America met Greece, enabling mer to trade for their contacts when I researched Printing Press.

You've already gotten to Printing Press?!!

Sounds like the Scientific/Expansionist combo really accelerated the tech pace...

Allright! It's now 10 AD in my game and this is the way the game stands:
124 cities - 17 settlers (the settler-number is a bit low, I know, but I'm building marketplaces/libraries/horseman in my core)
154 workers
I've been in Republic since around 1300 BC.
Invention is up in 1 turn. Other MA techs I have are: theology, monotheism, education, printing press, astronomy, banking, feudalism and engineering). BTW, 4 turn research was done on all of these except theology (5 turns), and the first tier MA techs (trade).
Pyramids by GL shortly before 1000 BC, which resulted in a very early GA (major disadvantage to the Mayan attributes, IMHO).
Met all AI's, but already killed the Zulu's, with 4 horseman and 4 swords.
4 luxuries connected, and in the process of hooking up no 5...

Points: 503.

So, I'm lagging slightly behind Bremps' game, but my domination limit is far higher than his (his was below 4000 IIRC, mine is 4373 tiles)....

I think I'll be taking this one all the way.

I've given that point a lot of thought in regards to my next run. I don't really mind an early GA as long as it's not under Despotism. I'm thinking it might be best to beeline for Monarchy and switch to Republic later.

Granted it's a third anarchy, but weighed against a Despotism GA? It's a tough choice...

I agree. I simply prefer the GA later, after my FP is online, because I feel that allows me to use the GA to its' fullest extent.

BTW, I got the GL when I discovered republic (still haven't researched monarchy), so I just went into anarchy and rushed the Pyramids with my GL immediately after the Mayan republic was formed...
