Hi There:

When installing, I get the following error when the second cd reaches c:\...\Sid Meier's Civilization 4.msi

FEATURE TRANSFER ERROR
Feature: C++ Runtime Libraries 7.1
Component:
File:
Error: Data Error (cyclic redundancy check).

__

My basic specs:

HP Pavillion a562n
Pentium 4 w/ 300 GHz
512 MB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 AGP 8x graphics card w/ 128MB memory

DirectX 9.0c installed fine...

Any suggestions on what this problem is would be greatly appreciated as I am very eager to get started. I have searched for similar errors and have found none related to Civ 4...

If you have a different drive, try using it. If it still gives you the same error, you can try copying and pasting the whole thing to your harddrive and running it from there. If that doesn't work, then your cd is fubar and you'll just have to get another =\

It does look as though it is a problem with the CD. I tried what you suggested and got the same error when using a different drive. Couldn't even copy it to my hard drive -- got the same error (different dialog box, though).

Lastly, tried installing it on another computer and got the same error.

DANG IT ALL!

Back to Best Buy I go...

Thanks for your help!

Threw very old Lite-On CD drive into computer... game loads and runs fine. Copy protection must not get along with new DVD drive.

Game will still work with the DVD drive reinstalled, but it only loads with Disc 1 installed, not the Disc 2 "Play" disc. Heavy duty copy protection must be on disc 2.

Its a bad cd problem. Getting a new cd will solve this issue I had this problem too. CRC is a error checking if it doesn't pass that means the data is corrupt. CRC is a hash of a file which then can be recomputed if the old doesn't match the new its marked as crc corrupt.

It could also be a problem with the CD or DVD drive itself.

An easy way to find out is to test the CD on another PC.
