Yes, this is a Monarch game.

Ya, we're way behind in tech despite our advisor telling us that we're advanced. Our only other partner on this "large tract of land" isn't doing much to help the tech pace.

A culture win should be pretty easy once we take control. And control has been problematic as the barbs have been more than plentiful. Also, the lack of fresh water or bonus tiles to accelerate growth is something we have to deal with.

my aim changes - we need libraries ASAP. will change some builds.
MM lots of towns for some growth. we need pop more than shields now.

drop the settler pair on the deserted island, the galley is sunk by a cuman one.
i spot an ORANGE border just 5 (yes, that is FIVE) tiles of water of the west. they are the Ottomans.

amazingly we are top dogs score and culture wise.
Desert retreat is built > temple.
build embassy to osman for 57g.

3- Osman wants sun's.
i pop a GH. guess who shows up? you guessed it. another 3 men in white.
act on a hunch, check the war status. Osman and Ragnar are at it. it seems that Osman is the submissive and Reggie the Dominatrix.
build that embassy with ragnar for 99g.

4- now germans get on the fun with ragnar. my guess is they want a pure arian continent.
Ninveh galley > court (prebuild). build New Babyloony > temple,
meet ROME.
they are without Engineering. we deal.
we give ENG,90g, 3gpt for LIT & MONARCHY.
Meet CARTHAGE.
they are without Engineering. we deal.
we get MONOTHIESM for 10gpt + 6g.

5- Uruk riots. get a taxman. cycle through cities. all ok now.
all is NOT quiet on the western front. kept pushing the fog and now find 10+ more BH.

6- Khorsabad temple > lib, chage some builds into libraries.
start the grand canal project. it will bring water to our core cities.

7- Akkad settler > lib, Carchemish lib > harbor,
spot a roman settler pair on our west. i think ill leave them to the mercy of the barbie dolls.

8- Babylon market > lib, build New ninveh > worker,

9- Shurapak market > lib, Larsa worker > worker, Hindana worker > temple,
now i find an even NARROWER sea passage (thats 4 tiles across the south end of the west.

10- Nimrud harbor > temple, Adab get a taxman due to barb unhappiness.

summary. we're back in business :pimp:
we are score leaders (695 to arabs 482), culture leaders (3026 to Osmans 1244), world area & pop aswell (16 & 25 to arabs 11 & 14)
tech - up on arabs Lit, Mono, Eng. Carthage up feud, UP mono on rome, Ragnar is up feud, Osman up feud.
Feud is still VERY expensive (area of 317g + 67gpt)
we can deal luxes to ragnar.
osman is on the way out (only 5 cities left) trade with him before he dies.
THEOLOGY IS DUE IN 44 (1 beaker hired) we are making 70gpt. can raise to 40% (due in 17 +4gpt)
i suggets we keep this line of research for now and plan on stealing a few.
lets plan on getting the SIStines with a nice prebuild.

The libraries are more for culture at the moment. If we go into self research they'll pay off later as well.

up SCIENCE to 50. we get theology in 12.
let ASHUR continue the SoZ (due in 14).
switch and we get sistine, which would be of better value than a few upgraded horses.
after we get the chapel, start another pre build.
bee-line to education > music theory. then we also get J.S.BACH's (with about 20 turns of prebuild)

on a more somber note. WE NEED MORE WORKERS!!!!
especially near the core. send some back to improve our land.
and get some out of the corrupt ones.

We live in a hole in a rock. Blech! :sad:

I shipped most of the workers west as we were keeping the core population low w/ the production of settlers and the occasional worker. With most of the tiles improved that were of use to us I wanted to get roads to the west and make quick contact w/ the men in white.

I would like to be able to collect more luxuries. Does Abu have anything unique that we may be able to annex?

Irrigating towards our parched plains.

We can trade Mono and much gold to Rome for Feud but it would be cheaper to trade Theology and Feud doesn’t buy us any culture. We’ll keep the gold for rushing for the time being.

Turn 5 – 540 AD
Vikes complete Knights Templar.

Turn 6 – 550 AD
Boarders expand and we get two palace upgrades.
Ring up what I hope is the last barb camp for another 25g.

Turn 7 – 560 AD
Vikes are doing a nice job of cleaning up the waters of Barb Galleys.
Larsha riots.
Berlin completes the Sun Tsu’s. That’s just what they need.
Vikes and Otters switch to Leos.
Another Barb camp pops up.

Turn 8 – 570 AD
Rome declares on the Otters.
Ring up barbs for another 25g. This has been quite lucrative.

Turn 9 – 580 AD
Not much.

Turn 10 - 590 AD
Moving units about to try and block Arab settlers heading west.

Turn 11 – 600 AD
Germany and Otters make nice.

A few quick questions:
- We only have two cities. Should we build some ducts to get more? Our economy would profit from that.
- What's the plan to acquire new techs? Various civs are up Feud, Theo and Chivalry. Ceasar will only tell us about feud for the ridiculous price of Mono, 33gpt and all our gold. I'm inclined to research it myself (we can burn to it in 10 turns), but then I'll waste 17 turns of min run on Theo.
 
Sorry that there were not any pictures from my set. I woke up at 1am, after collapsing on the couch at ~8pm, and played until 3:30 at which point I was sufficiently tired to go back to sleep.

I do not recommend this sleep pattern to anyone out there, especially for those over 40. Today has been a struggle. :sleep:

Short term...

What about turning the min run on Theo into an outright research program and then sell the tech where we can? That is, should we try to aquire Feud, Invention, etc. with the more expensive tech? The main problem w/ this approach is that Theo is already known and may have been spread around before we have the chance.

Also, Leo's is being built so Invention is already out there as well.

Can we turn Abu into a research partner?

Long term thoughts...
For a 100k win we only need to research up to Education. However, keeping near tech parity will help keep us from a tanks vs pikes scenario.

Once we own our continent we have little to worry about an attack from the sea. Then again, the Vikes can mount a blistering seaborne invasion.

While claiming territory give thought to ICS placement. That is, allow enough room to allow CxCxC. Plunking down cities and rushing in a temple and lib will be our quickest path to 100k.

Although I normally shun wonders it wouldn't hurt to put a pre-build in motion if we plan on trying to keep up w/ tech.

Rush the temples and libs in the west to keep the cultural pressure high on those cities that manage to find open land.

Your wish has been granted... I played a couple of turns, and then Abu gets Feudalism! Now we can trade for it.

On the downside, we can expect Ansar Warriors at our borders soon, as Chivalry is already around :eek: Weren't we supposed to kick Abu off our continent? That's going to be a hard job...

Now we face the choice of either continue rush-building culture while putting up some defense, or build a stack of Knights ASAP and get Abu before he becomes too dangerous. Your 0.02$ please?

divide our efforts
1/4 keep pumping settlers and heading west.
1/4 keep rushing culture
1/2 build a SoD of knights, aimed at pushing Abu back into his portion of the continent.
after that flood it with pikes and form a barricade.

sci - keep up if at all possible.
wonders - sistines AND/OR bach's. i really love those.

long term - when we get to both wonders, go 0% for a while rushing uni's, etc. after afew (say 15 turns?) start it up again at max for a run at SMITHS.

timeline: war prep 0 > 10
Abu's war 11 > 15
min sci 15 > 30
max sci 30 >
