Death Robot Technology?

Stealth Bombers get a +100% bonus to Evasion (apparently, it reduces damage taken from interception).

Guided Missiles and Atomic Bombs only receive a +50% bonus. (Though in a different place, it says Guided Missiles can't be intercepted...)

Sadly, there's no "barracks" equivalent for air units (or sea units...).

Ooooh! If the GDR gets too close to the coast, offshore ships can bombard them with no worries of retaliation! :-) Battleships (range 3, ranged attack 32), Destroyers (range 2, ranged attack 22), and Missile Cruisers (range 3, ranged attack 25; plus 3 missiles). Maybe even Submarines (range 3, ranged attack 60) and Nuclear Submarines (range 3, ranged attack 70; plus 2 missiles)?

At topic:

2 possible explanations for the pic:

1) It's just as an example how it will look like. Only a dummy mod, or even photoshopped.

2) Could be that the game comes with a few example mods and even with some documentation with them, how they were created etc. to help out the modders. It should be obvious that a GDR removal mod would be an easy task for a game developer who spend the last weeks/months or even years working on the game... wouldn't take him more than an hour or so? Perhaps they decided to add it as a feature and example how to mod, because of all the whine! ;)

Personally I think the thing looks absolutely ridiculous in the context of the Civ series. There were plenty of other futuristic weapons/technologies they could've chosen over the stupid Gundam anime fandumb. Mecha will never be a reality for a number of reasons, but the biggest one deals with the fact that there is no strategical value for a bipedal robot over what technology we have now.

Ever heard of an Easter Egg in games? This is essentially an easter egg due to it having been a very popular fan request a long long time ago.

the game may end at 2050 and nuke fusion and the GDR itself are expensive anyway... if you hate the idea of GDR you can always not build it, but if you want one no matter how risky and pricey it takes, go ahead. i think i will build two or three of'em.

I think it might be more fun to defeat a GDR than to build one. I can see using mechanized infantry to create a zone of control to slow it down, and then pounding it with artillery and what have you until it gets low enough for a tank to finish it off.

In fact, I want to see the death animation now...
