Default and Alternate Team Colors

When these are set, how does the game determine which one of the colors get used? For example, if a civ's default is blue and alternate is red, does that mean that it will be blue unless another civ also has blue? In that case, which civ gets blue and which civ gets the alternate color?

Is there anyway that a civ can use both in the game or is it just one color?

The search function on this forum is very obtuse with team colors/civ colors as the search parameter. I couldn't find anything on civ colors that wasn't buried in irrelevant topics or just general. Nothing to answer my question, that is. In fact, one of my searches yielded one of my own threads where I was talking about unit palettes.

I always search the forums before I make a thread. I only make a thread if I can't find the answers I was looking for or if there is no answers in the threads I do find.

For example:

https://forums.civfanatics.com/search/8498264/?q=team+color&o=date&c[user][0]=20480

That's a typical search result I get when trying to find something of a category that often filters poorly. After spending hours looking for things even off this website, I would appreciate it if you knew the post specifically if you could link it. Parsing through 14 years' worth of information on this game is difficult when the subject is something as simple as default and alternate team colors.

Edit: Nevermind, I found my answer by googling it again. After I made this thread, google coupled similar threads from so many years ago under the results of mine. Thank goodness for a smart engine.

I know what you mean. I've had trouble finding my own posts.

I would be reduced to doing the same search as you. Don't have any threads bookmarked.

For more info you might try searching for threads started by Rob (R8XFT). He's got a quite few, so limit it to the C3 C&C forum. Not sure if the file is still there, but I know at one point he had posted a set of colors ready for use and there was discussion around it at that time. If you don't find a thread specifically on colors, try looking in his threads relating to Anno Domini (his major scenario/mod). El Justo is another potential lead. I know a lot of work was put into colors for the Age of imperialism mod.

It was Rhye, who made different team colours: https://forums.civfanatics.com/threads/new-team-colours.85016/

Solborn, something, that is not covered in your linked threads is, that it can happen, that the civ has a completely different colour, than both colours that are assigned to that civ. In my current CCM2 testgame with 31 civs, the USA were pink, so this colour wasn´t assigned to that civ, and when watching in DEBUG mod to games with 31 civs, there frequently are several civs in the game that also have complete different colours as assigned to them in the editor.

Interesting. Do you know if this happens if each civ has a unique color (no two civs with same colors) and if the color is the same for both default and alternate?

Thank you for the link, by the way.

There were some civs with the same default and alternate colour, among them the USA (that became pink in that game). So not all civs had different colours, per example the USA had a unique colour, that was changed to pink by the game.
