Defending GONG Territory

One of our major worries has been preventing SABER from taking GONG's island. Here is my proposal to slow their invasion should they land.

The two cities circled in red are the easiest to defend, and would be highly fortified. Then the tiles with green squares we forest, so if SABER takes our coastal city, they can't take any more that turn and get onto the rails. We would have to abandon all the cities in pink, and pillage the squares in purple. We would keep Dark Side of The Moon because of the wonders and would heavily fortify it.

So if they invaded, here's what would happen.

Turn 0: Fleet spotted by ship watching network.
Turn 1: Coastal city invaded.
Turn 1b: Modern Armors move into forest, stop because MP's are used.
Turn 2: Lose inland city, most of GONG.

This would give us fewer places to watch, and another turn to airlift troops, and defend our territory.

Thoughts?

Good, but I don't think we should abandon the coastal cities. Just maybe reinforce them. If we abandon them SABER could settle and have direct troops. By that I mean airport airlift.

I'm not opposed to this plan, but it is drastic. But once we learn Fission (on Turn 236) we can afford it and reduce our research accordingly. But we will lose a lot of geeks.

We lack the workers to get this completely done anytime soon. We have only 4 workers in Gong and 6 in Free (which are on pollution cleanup duty). We can rush workers in the Pink Cities, but that will take two turns to get set up (Turn 235 wealth -> worker; Turn 236 rush worker for 36 gold; Turn 237 start forests). Once all the forests are up, we can join any excess workers into cities.

In the larger cities, we should consider rushing a settler instead of a worker, if we plan to settle Babe to keep Saber from sneaking a Domination victory when they attack The Council. (We need to mention that to Saber; it will show that we are serious in fighting them later.)

We get nothing and keep no terrain improvements from a city when we abandon it, but we can get some workers from the size 1 cities, if we set them to zero growth and build/rush a worker.

We have our two newest Cruisers sailing to Gong now. Both are 6NE of their building cities (Azurra Coast and Ishme-Shamash).

Just initial thoughts, so let's keep the conversation going.

SABER is obviously beefing up for an attack. On whom we don't know. Either GONG or COUNCIL. If SABER is attacking GONGland they could eliminate BABE before we build the UN. We might need to protect Woodstock with some mechs.

If I were SABER, I'd be hoping to goad us FREEbies into invading the Council. Then, while the FREE forces are busy there, I'd invade the FREE core. Take half a dozen cities, and FREE is crippled - GONGland just doesn't have the infra or low corruption to keep up with, well, anyone.

Edit: For defense, I'd rather build enough Destroyers and Submarines to spot SABER naval forces and attack transports before they can land in GONGland. If they can land 20+ Modern Armor, we'll lose GONGland, but if they can only land half a dozen? I think we could keep a large enough garrison on GONGland to deal with that.

Next turn I will document our Gong Forces.

Or I may go back to Turn 234 and do it this weekend. Except for the new units, nothing moved.
